Just wanted to share an experience I had today. My '01 GTP has 213,000 miles on her and is doing great. I just changed the plugs and have to admit I was hesitant to roll the engine forward to get access to the back plugs but after I got into doing it I was OK.

I bought a Haynes manual for her and it has been a life saver along with the tips and encouragement from the forum.

I have had a couple of MAF sensors go bad and that caused some weird problems and I thought I had one yesterday when the idle speed of the engine just jumped to over 2000 rpm for no good reason. I was just driving along at a low speed and all of a sudden the rpm jumped up and would not come down. Since I needed to replace the plugs and wires anyway I started there but I knew that was not the problem.

A while back I had changed the IAC valve and decided to check it out just to be sure it was working OK. When I pulled it out I got the valve, the spring and the shaft but the needle was still in the throttle body.

Looking closer I found the needle was just sitting in the seat and I was afraid it would fall out and land inside the throttle body. I took the shaft out of the valve (it just unscrewed) and threaded it into the needle and was able to extract the needle from the housing and reassemble the valve. I set it to the recommended 1.125 inches in the manual and reassembled it and it worked great.

The car is running great again and has that old power back that I love so much. I was cruising at 80mph on the on ramp of the freeway and had to slow down to merge

I do notice it is running a little rough at idle but I just added a can of seafoam to the gas and am running it out to see if that will settle things down. It's OK but I think it can be a little smoother sitting at a light. We'll see.

Thanks to everyone that contributes on the forum. It is a big help for a mech-tard like me when it comes to working on these beasts but there is a certain amount of satisfaction to working on the car and then doing a successful test drive. It's been a good day

Nice to see its still running strong. As for the Seafoam it may run a little rough depending on how bad your lines and chambers are because it will clean them and also if its been awhile maybe run a can in the next tank to make sure you get it nice and clean and use 93 octane if you have it available.

Very nice and we need some pics for sure! I'm only at at 185k, but mine is still going strong. These engines last forever when treated right and maintenance is kept up on them.

Just found this place while looking around. I'm at almost 251,000 miles on my 99 GTP. Bought it new in February 99.
I was scanning the web for additional resources. just picked up a new harmonic balancer to replace the original one that went bad a few days ago. It has been a great car.
