Today I am gettting new Firestones installed on my 2003 GT. The Check Engine Light had just turned on so I had them check it for me. Seems the Cat Converter is failing, I am told there was a recall on these but it expired when the car reached 120,000. My car has 13x,xxx miles on it. Is there any chance I can get GM to help me? Please let me know your thoughts.

The special policy extending the warranty to 120K was only on the 01-02 models, so your 03 wouldn't have been covered anyway. I doubt you'll get them to do anything. I posted the full text of the extension a while back if you want to look into it more.

They told me the code referred to the cat. I guess I know no different.

3" down pipe and high flow cat...hmmm...

Funny thing is this car gets 30-31mpg all the time, maybe it will get more with an exhaust that is not restrictive...

if the cat is partially clogged it might, but I wouldn't count on it for sure. But it will give you more HP.....not gobs, but why not do it if you have to replace the cat anyway? personally, I think that ZZP has the best downpipes and the most reasonable. Not sure how much modding you want to do, but you could get a custom tuned pcm which has the cat code deleted and get a catless DP as well. Please do not get a PCM from ZZP though. They have been known to blow up motors according to people on here who have had them. There are other more reliable tunes such as the DHP tune through 3800performance.

Looks like the price for a down pipe from ZZP is priced much better than a stock replacement. What do you mean by the DHP tune? I see the PCM for Grand Prix GT v1.0 on 3800 Performance.

DHP is who does the pcm's for 3800performance.com

i have a 3800performance pcm and am VERY satisfied with it. the only thing that sucks is they charge extra to delete the o2 sensor codes, and to NOT make your fans run after key off,

A weak or slowly clogging cat will cause the O2 to read funny, thus trip the check engine light. Replacing the cat, or opening up the cat, fixes the O2 reading to be normal again. If left to continue, the O2 will eventually go bad as well. The two go hand and hand.

The can be hand in hand but dont have to be as well. You can just have your 02 sensor go bad, and the cat would be fine. Just get the downpipe through zzp....my bolt in literally bolted right in, excellent fit and no issues whatsoever. I could not be happier with the DP itself. Get new gaskets if you go this route, it will make things easier to seal up on the install if you are going to do this yourself.

I just got my 3" downpipe with cat from ZZ Performance. I know it was been too long, but my pocket book was slowing up the purchase... Plan to install it this Saturday. Anything special I need to know?

Hmmm, I opened my New ZZ Performance box last night to find I ordered the Weld In version, ooooooooops. Today I will call a couple shops to see if they want to install it for me. Or I'll have to contact ZZ Performance and see what they will do for me.

my exhaust shop will weld anything...and not rip me off either...hope you have a shop like I do that will accomodate you. They should weld it in for not that much money. By the time you get done shipping it back to zzp and then paying the difference for a bolt in, it would probably be cheaper to just find someone to weld it in.
