Lets play a game, Whats That Noise?

Ok 1997 GTP, Noise is not there in park, when I put the car in drive and not moving there is a tapping noise like at the firewall, BUT when you get out of the car to hear it you cant, you can only hear it inside the car.

Wow, that's not much to go on.

Could be an exhaust leak
Could be an HVAC actuator
Could be the wind
Could be your imagination
Could be exhaust against the body
Could be something with the engine once a load is added

It could be a lot of things. How loud is it, where does it sound like it's coming from, inside/outside, is it metallic in sound.. a ticking with rpm or with music...

Lot's of info that we'd need to help you out.

I think I have the same sound as you. My best bet so far is that's related somehow to the steering. Try moving it a little bit either way and it goes away.

I also think you can hear the sound from outside if you try it from the passenger's side wheel.

I haven't been able to get rid of it either because every time I take it to the shop, it doesn't make the sound.

Ok on second thought it could also be related with the rear manifold or down pipe, I don't think I've heard that sound again since I installed the headers.
