ok, heres the deal. 2004 grand prix gtp comp g, the resonator looks like its splitting open from the sides. i can hear that there is a hole somewhere on the exhaust, and i think its coming from that. the whole system looks rusty, so i was thinking about getting a whole new system from the cat back, or if the cat looks really bad, then ill have to replace that also.
my question is, for the folks on here that has replaced their exhaust system, did you keep the resonator? or did you get rid of it. from what ive read its main purpose is to further ''muffle'' the sound. shut the car up.
i figured if im going to get a new system, i might as well get a bigger pipe and go loud, but not too loud, or fart can loud (i hate that)
so thats why im asking, if i ditch the resonator, will the car sound like a honda?
    also,
with the stock exhaust system, the exhaust always comes out of both pipes. even when im pushing the gas, it doesnt seem to ever come out of one pipe, always two, which is a good thing. but my dad got a system on his silverado, and his exhaust always seems to favor one side. it doesnt happen every day, but its something i notice occasionally. is there a way to prevent this if i get a new system? is it better for me to go back to the O>E and have the dealer just ''replace'' the system i have, or go wider/custom. please let me know your opinion.
it might seem stupid, but the exhaust coming out of both pipes is a big deal to me, i hate how that looks! ive even had a friend behind me and ill call liek hey, is my exhaust coming out of both pipes? lol.
any help would be appreciated thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    raspy without a resonator.

change the mufflers only, like CTK said.

i mean, the whole system is pretty rusted, the resonator is already leaking ( as far as sound its leaking. not water), so i need to get a new system.
so when i get a new system, i should have them add a new resonator also?
im taking the car to an muffler shop.
im just trying to not spend a ton of money here.

also, is there a way to keep the exhaust coming out of both pipes 95% of the time like it currently does?

sooner or later one of the mufflers will clog more than the other. its inevitable.

yes, make sure you have some sort of resonator or glasspack installed.

Glasspack with a high flow cat or get rid of it with a Frozen Boost cat...(It looks like a converter when in fact just has a straight pipe through it if you have to get it inspected)...then get whatever mufflers you want. Chambered mufflers don't sound that great on these cars, unless you have some stupid cam setup like me

replace the resonator with a glasspack or switch the mufflers for something more mellow.

it does cause more rotating mass yea its common sense but never thought of it like that, i can feel it now on a fwd vehicle, cant tell whats so ever wen your drivin a real car 96 impala ss or a rear wheel drive car you can hardly tell that you have big rims on them even with factory gears, and also. i do it right 456gears

thanks for all your replies. I think I have a idea of what I'm going to do now. As as far as your argument its really funny. Lol, I have to side with bluegtp. He's always been extremely helpful for the past year. Good looking out homie!

Should I get headers 2? There's so much stuff I wanna do.

    Impala looks good btw.
