Hey today i went for an estimate for how much it would cost for my headers to be installed. They gave me a price of $200. That mentioned it was that expensive because if a bolt from the manifold cracks and drops into the block im screwed and so are they. Does this sound right or does it sound like a rip off. Let me know humans.

$200 for a header install isn't bad...but how are they going to break a bolt off and drop it in the block? Unless they mean breaking a bolt off in the head...and I've only seen the crossover bolts break. not the ones on the head. Pretty sure I'd do it for $200...it isn't a fun job to do.

Ya thats what he meant. Is it a common thing that the stock bolts that connect the manifold break off into the head? Im not sure if he was just saying that to get a few more bucks out of me for the job... thanks .

Extremely uncommon for a bolt to break off in a head. So uncommon that I'd say you had to have the gun set to "On" and "kill" in order to do it.

I've done one...only one, only because I was gunning along in a race against time.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

$200 for a header install? I'd be on top of that. I'd rather drop a couple bucks than save it only to make trouble and work for myself. Especially since I don't have a lift - installing on jack stands would be a pain, to say the least.

I'm told it's an 8-hour job... labor out here near Philthadelphia like $80/hr if not more. $80x8=$640. You'd be saving $440 worth of frustration to get someone else to do it and do it right.

Ya, i actually just got another call from a good friend who said he would do it for about $150, depending on how far the headers run back. So looks like this is getting done thursday and im moving on to a nicely tuned PCM from reptile.

Another thing is that these SSac headers delete the cat conv right?

Will it have any damaging effects on my engine, that is not having a cat conv.

I do a lot of installs here in the MA/CT area. I've actually found that dropping the sub a touch is the trick to a speedy install. And I don't have a lift.

SLP's and ZZP headers are a 2-3 hour job. I haven't tried the rest lately, but these I can confirm.

You can run without a cat with no harm. You will throw a SES light.. unless someone with a tuner deletes it for you.
