I just installed a new ignition switch in my '99 grand prix (which works, it solved all my previous problems) but it was missing the wire that connects to the bottom of the park lock solenoid. I didn't want to unplug the ignition switch again and transfer the wire to the new switch right then so I tried to start the car just to see if it works, and it does. But the key got stuck in the ignition.
First it was stuck in the ON position and I could start the car just fine and shut it off by moving the key back to the ON position, but I couldn't turn it to OFF to pull the key out. I searched around and found that if I push the button on the bottom of the solenoid that it should release the key.
But when I did that it let me turn the key to the OFF position but wouldn't let me take it out. So now the key is stuck in the OFF position and I cannot turn it to any other position or take it out. However I can pull the key out just far enough for the door ajar sound to stop playing, but that's it.
I even tried removing the solenoid completely and the key still wouldn't move from OFF or come out. So I put the solenoid back in and took out the 2 wires from the old ignition switch that plugged into the solenoid and put them into the new switch and tried it again, no luck.
Any ideas?
