If your planning on going any further I'd say headers, but on the other hand for what headers cost now a days just get the headers anyway.

id go with headers due to cost and the fact they let you mod further if wanted

Also this may sound dumb, but can you use a 3"dp with ssac headers

you don't need to get a downpipe with headers. the same part of the exhaust gets replaced
99 GT - top swapped, S2X cam. - sadly, sold
    96 Firebird Formula - T-tops and exhaust leak. 14.26 @ 97.8 - sold
2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS - stock, in all of it's turbocharged awesomeness

^^what this guy said..headers come with dp's. I would say if the furthest you're going to mod the car is a 3.4 then get a plog/downpipe for low end torque and you can always find them dirt cheap in classifieds, but any smaller of a pulley you'll want headers for sure.

Get speed daddy headers. Headers are always the better option unless you plan on going turbo.

    They dont.

But they still let you run a smaller pulley and go faster.

But headers are the best idea, just not necessary. Think Cali.

Your call chief on that one. I'd get a 3" Cat and slip it in there if I were worried about emissions...if not they come with a 3" test pipe
