    The fuel line won't be long enough once you cut it. Since you have rust on the line and will have to cut back past it to get to good tubing. You are gonna be way short. Not to mention. You will have to buy a fitting. And when I said put a flare on tubing, just ment a little bend outward to keep it on the hose.

    If you do go with a compression fitting. It will be more solid.

    I would just cut the rusted line off, get a new section of tubing so that when you cut the damaged section out you will have enough length to reach the fuel filter.Install the new piece of line with the correct fitting for the fuel filter and you can use a compression fitting to connect the lines but i would just flare them and install a union fitting to join the two ends.Not that hard to do, just takes more time to do and is a better long term solution than installing rubber fuel line with hose clamps.
