Hi, my name is Justin and I'm a new member to this site. I'm currently looking at a 1st generation W body Grand Prix coupe (1989-1996) and I found a '90 red coupe that has the bench seat, 3.1 Multi Port, and it's priced at 500 by the original owner. I was wondering what would have to be done to drop a 3800 Series II engine and tranny into it. Like engine mounts, change to a center console shift from column shift, etc. I'm only 16 and my area of work is more for collision and body restoration. I have welding skills, I have a plasma cutter available, I just need to know what it will take mechanically to make this mod work. Call me stupid for asking this question, but I'm really curious about this....I'd appreciate any and all comments

Buy the car cause it's cheap, but make it look amazing with your body work skiills, then sell it and buy a 97-03

Other then that this swap will take some work, I don't think it'd be worth it.

its cool to have, but the hassle level is fairly high. ive seen a number of swapped pre-gens and they are a cool little number, no doubt. i just dont think its worth the effort when you can buy a newer grand prix for just as cheap.

Come on...give the car credit where it's due. It's a '90 LE coupe(and how many do you see from this time period??) It's got potential and in 5 years, it's gonna be an antique. MA registry labeled it as a "classic" and I had to pay extra cuz the car's value was at $3,500 compared to me buying it for $500... And plus, yea i can just buy a newer GP like the rest of you, but what's the fun in that? Don't hate on the older GP's just cuz they didn't have the 3800 stock and it isn't as aerodynamic....This is GRAND PRIX forums, and that should include the older '90s generation as well...I like being different and this car represents me better than any other car

Around here... Going fast >>> visual mods for the most part.

Just can't do that with the 3.1 unless its the turbo model.

That site linked above should be very useful.

Have fun and good luck.... Remember these are unibody cars so be careful with the body...

Check out Triple Edge Performance too...he can point you in the right direction because IIRC, a '94 or something was the first car he put a L67 in...and it was no joke.

i have seen two local pre-gens with swaps: one with an L67 and another with a northstar that was converted to RWD. both were badass, but i think for the amount of money put into both id have just started with something else. no doubt that it is a cool thing to do, but it takes a lot of custom work to make it all come together.

Maybe turbo 3.1 with a getrag 284 manual tranny from 3.4 Quad cam, it should bolt up since both share the same block, plus the 282 isn't as strong as the 284 I've heard.
