Thread: Fire Extinguisher mounted.

Decided to mount my fire extinguisher inside the cabin with me, and in a place thats with in reach in case its needed.

My original plans were to mount it in the trunk out of the way, but I can see as fate would have it, there is either a fire that takes out the electrical supply, or an electrical short that starts a fire, either way, I would be S.O.L. getting inside the trunk because I have shaved my trunk lock.

Next best place was under the glove box, and use the existing holes, and screws that are already there.

I started off measuring, and did a dry install and it will fit, but not all the holes lined up that the bracket had predrilled in it already. So made another hole, the one my finger is covering up:


Got it mounted using the screws that hold the glove box to the frame of the dash, so its a real strong secure mounting point:

Our luck, they probably would have put it on the passenger side a-pillar! lol

Very nice Jason. After I saw what happened to WasteU's car I have been really wanting a fire extinguisher in my car. If you don't mind me asking where did you get it at. And is there anything specific one would need to know when purchasing a fire extinguisher? I know they make different ones for different types of fires.

I got it as a present this past year for Christmas from the GF. It was on my list too.

She bought it locally from a fire safety store that does residential as well as commercial stuff.

I know its a ABC rated one.

Possible.

My car is a '97 and I installed a lock assembly from a 2001 that has the glow in the dark t-handle attached to the lock from inside the trunk. That way if your ever locked in the trunk, this will open it etc. I can get to it through the center fold down in the rear seat, but why climb back there if there is a fire...I want to get to it as quick as I can blink my eye.

Ya, I hear ya. Its a stretch for me at that. Thank goodness I have long arms though.

The little lever does the trick for what I need it to do. If one was creative enough, and had a lock assembly like this, just remove the t-handle, and run some cable through the lid, and down the hinge and on into the body of the car.

For the ease of the install, and the money to be saved, I would probably use a universal bicycle brake cable or derailer cable for the line, and then get creative on a lever, and maybe have it hidden somewhere like under the front or rear of the drivers seat up out of the way, but yet assessable.

All you would have to do is fab up a cable attachment to the trunk lock, and the lever. But there is plenty of different cable attachments from bicycles that would make that work easily, and cheaply if thats something you want to do.

very clean install... i have mine in the trunk currently, and could see the problem that may come with that... i may look at installing mine somewhere else, it used to be on the hump in the back seat, between teh floorboards. but i moved it to the trunk and its been there since

Nice install Farns! Yeah mine is in the trunk as well. I have thought about mounting another one, but mine will probably be attached to the back of the center column. Remove the ashtray and install the bracket there or something along those lines.

I see you have broke off your little 12v power adapter plug as well. Stupid things I swear. I don't know how many of those I have went through myself.

Jason, where do you get those 12v plastic covers at? Dealer?

You could.

I find mine at the local salvage yard. Usually for free if I can remove it with out damaging the center console. The out let must be unscrewed from the inside/back side where you remove a threaded sleeve and then the main part pops out the front, and this is what holds the plastic cover on it, a little lip on the main part.

I didn't start wearing them out until the power tuner came along.
But When I bought my car, it was already broken and missing for me.

Looks really good. nice clean install. thinkin i might consider doing something long those lines in the future as well. And s far as the 12v outlet covers you guys were talking bout i never even had one it was broken when i got the car i didnt know it wasnt attached to the socket maybe ill go to the boneyard and pick up new one too
