I just got a 02 Grand Prix GT and when I was driving it home I realized the service engine soon light was on. Then while on the gas I would notice that the car randomly would have the RPMs fluctuate and the car would go back and forth between accelerating and not accelerating even though I was on the gas the whole time. I then also noticed that when I go to start it, the car just cranks for a long time (relative to the other cars I have driven) before starting. Does anyone know what could be causing these?

honestly, too many variables to point any fingers. i can blindly say you have a vacuum leak, but it wont mean im right. throttle blade sticking or TPS going out? is the MAF clean?

you have to try a few things out and tell us what happens before we can help any more.

mine just went bad too. sometimes it seemed fine, other times i thought it was gonna die on me right then and there. I cleaned my maf sensor, but that did nothing. bit the bullet and spend the $145, but make sure its new and not a refurb one. It takes a t-20 secured torx bit. $10 for a set at autozone. code was prolly a p0102 i take it.

I just cleaned the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner. From what I can tell so far the stumbling problem may have been corrected, although when it idles it seems like it jumps around a little bit. Cleaning the MAF sensor seemed to have no effect on the starting issues. Anyone have any ideas about what could be causing the starting issue. The only code was for the MAF sensor

jumpy idle is going to usually point towards a vacuum leak, but only you would be able to figure that out. other than that i wish you had a scanner so you could tell me what the car is doing.
