Has anyone here ever sanded and hand buffed a fresh paint job, instead of using a machine buffer?

I wouldn't think it would work so great, because the buffer gets the clear coat hot and kinda makes it flow smooth.

Who said it was messed up? You always buff new paint if you want to get the most out of it.

I hadn't ever buffed before and didn't like the idea since I didn't want to mess it up. I watched a couple videos on Youtube, though and talked to a couple people to get some tips and tried my hand at it this morning with a borrowed buffer and wool pad.

It came out pretty good. I didn't get too close to the corners for concern with rubbing through, so I ended up hitting those by hand. It took about 4 1/2 hours to do the hood, both fenders, put the hood on and hand rub a small spot on the rear bumper.

Yes, it would have been a major bear to rub out by hand. That was a crazy idea.

Incidentally, it's fresh paint. I painted the parts I mentioned a week ago.
