i ran 10w40 all the time in my car to keep my oil pressures up high where i wanted them. no problems ever with it.

nah, its fine.
i always ran store brand dino oil and fram filters on my car and it ran like a top. i think anyone that seriously buys synthetic and runs it all the time is a complete sucker. these motors take anything so long as the oil gets no water in it or you run it low (or lose oil pressure). screw a $50 oil change, ill do mine for $20.

Oxymoron...Fram is junk no matter which version you choose.
If you want a cheap oil change, go with Wal-Mart SuperTech...some of the better oil and filters out there, and definitely the best bang/buck.
I use Mobil 1 oil and filters.

Even thought they use a fairly robust algorithm for the OLM, it can’t compensate for all the variables.:th_computerproblem:
Its kinda funny that honda uses this system now. I was talking to a honda owner about it and he swears by the Honda OLM but wouldn't trust the GM for anything. :th_jester:

yeah. The only harm that will come from doing an early oil change is to my wallet. I can deal with that
Re: Oil and Filter preferences
I use shell rotella t synthetic 5-40 and the larger wix filter changed at 5k miles
Re: Oil and Filter preferences
10w40 royal purple eith the larger k&n filter for the 4.3 l in the blazers. ( and yes I know the dangers of motor mounts failures and bigger filters)
Re: Oil and Filter preferences
I use the NAPA Gold 1036 oil filter. They are 40% off right now as they are every spring. I buy enough for a year. I use conv 10w-30 Napa in the spring through fall or so and switch to 5w-30 for the MN winters. Their oil is also on sale now for $1.99/qt.
Re: Oil and Filter preferences
On my GP, I used RP 10W-30 with Pure One filters.
To the people running extended oil change intervals, I'd highly recommend using a synthetic/fleece filter. Several German car owners with extended oil change intervals (over 10,000 mi) have seen the paper filters disintegrate. I don't know if anybody here plans on going that long, but I've seen some people on other GP forums who get oil analysis going 15-20k mi between oil changes.
Here's a pretty informative site describing most filters on the market:
Oil Filters Revealed - MiniMopar Resources
A lot of the more expensive "high end" filters are made by the same companies using the same materials as less expensive filters. For example, here's what they have to say about the K&N filters:
Quote:
K&N It's a white Mobil 1 filter with a nut welded to the back. It's made by
Champion Labs using what I call their "performance" design instead of the "Ecore". Save the $2-$3 plus shipping and get the Mobil 1.

this is why i'm excited my work is finally starting to carry the mobil filters.

Re: Oil and Filter preferences
Well, the manual have two "options" severe and normal driver, severe drivers should change the oil every 3000 miles and normal driver should change the oil every 5000 miles. I fall into the severe driver category thats why I always change it every 3000 miles, I just started changing it every 2500 but that may be wasting money so I might go back to the 3000 miles lol :) Ya'll have different preferences I see, I always rather to use 10w30 high mileage oil but like I said before, now I have to get whatever is on special :) as long as it don't look bad quality!
