Do we not know that running too rich shortens the life of the cat?

I've heard of that....and certain fuel additives etc etc can destroy a converter....I've just never heard of idling doing this. Not saying it won't, I"m just curious.

when you idle the cat gets hotter (you tend to run a bit richer, and they were designed to have airflow) that is what they always told us in the tech classes, and even when I went to independent shops the muffler reps all said the same (walker claimed over 75% of failures were due to letting the car sit and idle)

If someone has one and doesent need it (emissions wise) I think it is removed asap....I know i did...I have never lived in a state that required emissions thank god!!

Good info as i did not even think of that (as far as the ic getting cloged up)

Weird....See, I was reading about this yesterday (and I'm not wanting to argue here)

The converter hardly does anything while idling, in fact the emissions are through the roof when idling. The best way to warm up a catalytic converter is to drive the vehicle.
    I don't know....like I said, I was just curious.

I have seen cats glow, but can't say for sure they were fine before the "test"

actually i have read that cats are more likely to go out while at idle i locked my keys in my car about 4 years ago and it took about 3 hrs before they could get to me so i waited and the shops along with the lock smith and friends said that i was lucky that i didn't burn up the cat

Um... No IIRC egr feeds into the blower case.. Well it goes into the lim first... THEN into the inlet of the blower case.

    It's all about exhaust scavaging.

    People need to research.

What was the purpose of reviving this old thing???

Get headers, install IC, remove EGR, re-tune... winning.
