My low effiency cat code came up recently. my mechanic deleted the code and said to come back if it comes on again. Now its back again and i took the car to him. He quoted me $420 for a new cat, thats just the part price, not labor. I laughed and said i could get one cheaper..However i need suggestions..Stock GT btw.

do you have emissions? If not hack it off. You can get a replacement cat off ebay for cheap. 420 for a new cat, thats a rip off..

Take a sawzall, cut the cat out, then take a long rod or pipe and jam everything out until you can see through the cat. Then just have someone weld it back on and paint it so it doesn't rust. You will not have any more cat problems and its "legal".

I'm not going for performance. I just want to the job done and pass emissions. 420 is rediculous.

If you want fitment...and your not going for performance...just get a universal magnaflow cat off of fleabay for like $50-$75 or something like that. While your up there though...have the U-Bend taken out for sure. It'll give you better MPG's too just a FYI. But for christ's sake...take it to someone who knows their ass from a hole in the ground and not the same place that butchered your car earlier.

Measure the pipe. You'd be better off going with the Downpipe with the cat though. It will make your car run peppier and give you better MPG. Just my $0.02

He is quoting you the stock replacement part plus his markup probably.

Not a cut and splice in cat...

420 is for a cheap cat system. Other cars have much more expensive stock bolt in replacements.

It's not the cat system. Just the cat converter. Which downpipe and cat should go for?

    A link would be nice.

$420 is for the downpipe... In other cars you have to buy larger sections of the exahaust so to save time i said cat system.

    Buy the ZZP downpipe already.
