1998 GTP... The windshield wipers were working fine until yesterday. I went to shut off the wipers and their resting position somehow changed from where they are supposed to be(the cowl area) to the full upright position. The wipers still work fine, it just seems like they somehow lost track of were they are supposed to stop in the off position. When they are in the delay wiper mode they rest(pause) in the normal position between swipes(stops in the cowl temporarily) Any ideas on how to fix this or what tells the wipers where to stop when they are turned off? Would taking the battery cable off for a half hour reset whatever it is or would this not help at all?

Yup! you have to pull the cowl off. 2) under the lil plastic cover there is a tab that has to be bent back up for the motor to rest on while in the park position.

So I have to reset the tab position in the cowl. Thanks. So I am assuming that I should not be using the wipers when the cowl has snow in it then because these are sensitive and most likely what caused the issue in the first place. How does it know where to pause then when in delay mode? Just curious. So does it default to the upright position or is that where it is making contact now?

wipers stop in upright position - Automotive Forums .com Car Chat

this is an AWESOME write up that helped me through this problem

running the wipers with snow on them isnt the problem, its when you go to shut them off and they try to rest in that spot but theres snow/ice in the way

ive had to perform this procedure a few times so far this year. thats not good. that tab can only be bent so many times before it breaks. the part, called the "frame" is nearly $100. just always make sure theres absolutely nothing in the way of the "resting spot" when you shut them off

These guys hit it on the head. The tab gets bent down when they try to go to rest. Bend the tab back up and all is well.

    Excellent guys!

This gives me an opportunity to install my cabin air filter while the cowl is off as mine is a one piece. I assume that there is only one of these tabs and it is on the drivers side wiper?

If anyone has seen the more detail pictures of the cowl( I know I saw them in a different thread) please post it here or post me a link. Thanks.

I have the SAME problem.. I read the write ups and Replaced the wiper motor. The tab on my car was slightly bent so I bent it back to what I thought was perfect....I didnt really text it when I had it apart because I thought I had everything lined up right...

Before the wipers would stay up 100% when turned off. So I thought the motor was bad and the tab was bent...after fixing that today I got a chance to test them.

Now they work great except when on delay instead of them delaying at the bottom they pause at the top...and when turned off they go down where they should be on delay but do NOT retract down that last 4" or so....This is frustrating because when "off" they stick up a little....

Does this mean the tab is not bent correctly?!?! or is there some other control unit that needs replacing outside of the wiper motor?!?!?!

I bent the tab back and mine worked perfectly. When you take your cowl apart and thought that you fixed the problem does the tab push in the lever on the part that rotates? If not, what exactly are these devices doing?
