Hey all, I have just bought a 2000 Grand Prix off of my uncle 2 weeks and just has some problems I am trying to fixed. Weathers to cold to spend hours looking everywhere so if anyone has any ideas for any of them, Greatly appreciated.

    1) My Back-Up Lights and Truck Release do not work. I thought it was a separate problem but I see they are both on the same Fuse, The fuse was good, but I went out and bought a new one in case and it still didn’t fix it. I am not sure if there is a lose connection or something. Anyone have a Wiring diagram of this year so I can see if I can track down the wires? Any main spots this could be shorting?

    2) No cruse control. Fuse is good, not sure why it does not want to work.

    3) Windshield Wiper fluid, It is full but does not work, I do not hear the motor working when I try to use it. I could not find what fuse that would be on in the owners manual. (My Wipers do work)

    4) The key sticks in the ignition. After I turn the car over, it wont turn back to LOCK or ACCESSORY. I can only get to those if I don’t turn the car over. I have to use a screwdriver under the steering wheel to get it back to LOCK to remove the key. I have heard it might not be sensing it is in park and one way someone fixed it was sparing WD-40 in it to clean off anything like spilt drinks preventing a connection, but that didn’t work. Not sure if this is related to my Back-Up lights not working nor my Truck Release working.

Well those are the only Problems I have found out so far, and hopefully are the only ones. Any suggestions would be grateful, Thanks

    buy a washer fluid pump.

They're cheap and just go on the side of the reservoir.

sounds like that most of your problems are related to the fact that when your car isnt in park ti wount do sertine things. id figure out how to get the park thing figured out and id say that would at least fix a couple of your problems
silver 2003 Grand Prix GT List is on it's way to be updated

Had the same problem with the key not always releasing with my car and did the screwdriver key release for quite a while. It ended up being the cable between the shifter and the ignition. This cable basically lets the ignition cylinder know the car is in park and allows it to release the key. I'm sure someone hear can speak more about this issue.

For the washer fluid check to make sure you don't have the summer blend (+32F) because it may have frozen in the tank. Otherwise it's most likely the pump, easy to replace. I had the same thing once and I crawled under and hit it with a screwdriver several times until it started working again.

^^I realize a stock L36 is not as fast as the sticker implies, but this sticker has worked and it is still a hell of a lot of fun to drive considering it's a grocery sedan.

    2. Usually the "Fuse" does not good bad for the cruise control, it's most likely you're module itself.

    3. If it's not a fuse, it might be burned up.

    4. The ignitions in these cars a p.o.s, mine gets stuck all the time. usually just shake the wheel and they key, and comes out easier.

    Thanks all for the advice so far, i have seemed to fixed 2 of the problems so far, just an update;

    1) Still no Back-Up Lights or truck relase working (fixing the stuck key did not help this like i was hoping)

    2) Still no Cruse control (havnt tried to fix yet)

    3) I went to Canadian Tired today (yes a canadians store, wont have them in the States) and picked up a new pump for $25 and it works perfectly now.

    4) I took the consol out and cleaned it all up, bought some Contact Cleaner for about $6 and unhooked all the juctions and sprayed in there, and sprayed some on the little white plunger; Pic included.
Nothign worked at first, but went back about 30 min later and it seemed to work, The plunger pops out when i try to pull the key back to LOCK and I can take my key out.
I could see some liquids were spilt down there and seem like they stuck the plunger and wouldnt let it out. So seems like this $6 fixed has worked for now

So theres an update, and hope if anyone has those last 2 problems, this could help them fix theirs.
Any more help on the first 2 would be grateful, Really need to get my Back-Up lights working, lol

EDIT: file wont upload for some reason, It meets all the Max filesize and width and hight

I thought I read somwhere that the cruise control was related with the third brake light check there for a bad bulb. As for a rear lights did you happen to try to see if you have power with a light tester ( pull the reverse bulb out). This would be where I would start as well as the fuse which you already tried. HTH.

Both my bulbs in my third break light are working but cruise does not.

    EDIT:
Did test to see if there was power to my back-up lights and no there was not. so tis not a simple fix of both lights are out. will ahve to track the wires back. If anyone has a wiring diagram for this it would be greatful

According to the 1997 Service Manual - Backup Lamps Diagnosis
    • Set the parking brake
    • Turn ignition switch to RUN
    • Press the Brake Pedal
    • Put the Gear Selector Lever in REVERSE
Step 1 - Disconnect the Transaxle Range Switch connector C1 (looks like it is on top of the transmission - don't know if you can get to it)
With a test light, probe between the transaxle Range Switch connector C1 from terminal B to ground. If test light is on - go to step 2. If test light is not on - go to step 5.

Step 2 - Connect a (10A) fused jumper to the Transaxle Range Switch connector C1, between terminal B and Terminal F. If backup lamps are on - go to step 4. If backup lamps are not on - go to step 3.

Step 3 - Repair the poor connection or open in CKT 24 (can't find info on where this is) between the Transaxle Range Switch and C400 terminal D (body wiring harness to rear lamp wiring harness, behind trim at RH rear corner of rear compartment).

Step 4 - Check the Transaxle Cable for binding or restriction and Transaxle Range Switch adjustment. Check for a poor connection at the Transaxle Range Switch connector C1. If ok, replace the Transaxle Range Switch.

Step 5 - Repair a poor connection or an open in CKT 840 (orange wire coming into the transaxle range switch).

Sorry I don't have an actual wiring diagram, this is the best I can do so I hope it helps!

Just another Update after this long time, Been some nice weather so I was able to work under the hood today.

Finally got my Reverse lights and trunk release working today!

The Orange wire coming from the Park Neutral Position Switch was corroded so I had to cut a 2 inch section out and replace it with a new wire. Soldered it up, put everything back and they both work now

So looks like I have 3/4 main problems working perfectly, just have to get the cruse control working, haven’t tried any of the suggestion yet, been worried about the main problems first, will have to try it another day.

So thanks for all the help so far!
