so...i didn't watch the dash...and i damn near ran completely out of gas....got a horrible knock in the engine at idle and slow take off's...other than that its fine...i put a bottle of that seafoam stuff in the gas tank from autozone and that helped a bit...thinking about putting another bottle or 2 but wanted to get a input from you guys first. also. how much are you spending to fill your cars up? i have a 01 GT by the way. i'm damn near paying 40 bucks at 2.45 a gallon. and it doesn't even make me the week...anyway to improve gas milage also?

Lighter shoes will help your mileage.

Fuel pump might be going out.

it only takes running it near empty once or twice to burn a pump up, and put a fuel filter on it, take your foot out of it. My S-10 (4 popper) takes over 50 to fill, my Cherokee over 60, so quit *****in lol

I would swap out your plugs/ wires/ and replace your fuel filter as well. It never hurts to do a tune up unless you have just done it.

Yeah I think you hurt the fuel pump... It uses gas to cool it and when there is no gas, gues what it runs hot, or burns up.

Like suggested, change out the fuel filter, because it may have sucked up a bunch of crap at the bottom of the tank and go from there. If you can, also check fuel pump pressure, or have a garage do it. It is not hard to do and should not cost a lot if you take it to a garage to do.

$40? wow. i'm usually at about $30 for a tank, maybe a little more at like 2.55. as far as the week, that's about right. just a 12 gallon tank and like 15mpg city if i'm nice to it. depends on how much you drive too. i had like a 16 mile round trip commute and would make another trip out every night and would make it about a week

The tank is a bit more that 12 Gallons man. I think its closer to 17-18. I know i've put over 13 gallons in before. I think the last time i filled up it was over 30 bux. But I use 91 octane.

As for your car replace the fuel filter first thing, then go from there. Your pump could be sol but if it is running its hard telling. It could be that you even have some clogged injectors.

i must be special then. my gauge will be as close to empty as i care to get and i've never put more than 11.5 gallons in it.

    Lmao…

You guys can crunch numbers all day, but it still doesn’t change anything. If you want to spend less money on “filling up” then replace your gas tank with a fuel cell, and then brag to your friends how it only costs you $10 to fill up!

Anyway jayetune, to answer your mpg question. Once your car idles/runs properly there isn’t much you can do to the car increase mpg except change the plugs, and keep an eye on tire pressure. I personally run 33 psi in the winter and 37 psi in the summer, running these pressures I picked up about 1 mpg. A couple things to consider would be to replaced your O2 sensor and change to Dexron 6 at your next tranny pan drop. Anyway, mpg comes up on this site daily, and the biggest factor for 98% of the people is how they drive. A well maintained stock GP gets amazing gas mileage; you can’t get blood out of a turnip.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

how would i go about uncloging the injectors? i did a full oil change and put fully synthetic oil. what does that even help with? i know its got my GT sounding like a damn mustang. other than that i don't see a noticeable difference. i still have a little knock at idle and when i'm just moving up in the lane without my foot on the gas or the brake.

A GT and 2.45/gallon. Must be nice to use regular. Bump that up to 2.79 for super. If that's not enough, the tank on my pickup is 33gallons. I'll trade a fill up with you anyday.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

How about coming to canada where regular is roughly 3.80 and premium is 4.20/gallon.
