hey there, i've purchased a '97 Grand Prix SE and have dibs till tomorrow night on a '98 Grand Prix GT and i'm looking to make 1 car out of the 2
Stats:
97 SE- has optional 3800. tranny only has 1st and 2nd gear, after second it drops into neutral and simply revs up the motor until you slow down enough for it to grab 2nd or shift it manually into second. Driver side doors are smashed...used a jack and hammer to get both doors to open/close freely
98 GT- (dont have this car yet, just seen pics and going to look at it tomorrow) minor front end damage... this car without a motor, other then the damage and being motorless it's complete too. Tranny is supposed to work good.
Pending further investigation into how much work it will be to pull the front end around to use the front end parts off the 97, i'm wondering compatibily of the the two. i know the 97 SE/GT's had the 4t60e tranny and the 98-ups had the 4t65e's...
my two options:
-put the 98 gt tranny in the 97 SE
-put the 97 SE 3800 in the 98 GT
if i can repair the front end on the 98 GT, will the 3800 out of the 97 SE drop directly in with no harness/computer swaps?
if deem the front of the 98 GT front end to be to hard to repair with parts off the 97 and put the tranny in my 97, all i have to swap is the harness and computer right? or is there anything else? do they have the same gear ratios? do the axles have to be swapped out or are they the same?
or should i just say to heck with it and not bother going to buy the 98? lol it's gonna be time comsuming, but i got the 97 dirt cheap and the 98 is dirt cheap too, and dibs is mine until tomorrow evening cuz he didnt have time to show it to me tonight.
any info would be great! thanks!
