Hey,
My sister has a 98 GP GT that she bought recently. When she bought the car she found a key fob inside the glove box, she changed the battery and we clibrated the Key Fob. It worked for a good 24 hrs then stopped. I figued maybe the key fob was worn out so my father and I bought a couple key fobs, his was used and rebuilt and the one I found was on Ebay new with warranty. They all have the same PN like the one we originally found in the glove box. The key fobs are the 4 button style.
We tried sinking up the new key fobs with little luck. They would only work partially meaning the trunk would open, the panic would work, the unlock would work on occassion, and the lock would rarly if ever work. I took it to a dealership thinking they could program them and there was something I was doing wrong. They had the same problems. I did not have time to stick around for a few hrs while they diagnosed the exact cause but they mentioned it was probably the BCM.
I was wondering if anyone had this kind of problem before, if it is infact the BCM or potentially something else? From what I have read the BCM is located under the dash above the parking brake. If anyone has anymore information on what it looks like and how to find it and what to look for that would be great!? Also I really don't want to fork out 4-500 dollars for a new one! That is a lot of money just to get the key fobs to work. Also what else does the BCM control? Does anyone know of a good place to find a used one or do I have to go with a dealership to get it programmed correctly? Also If I can get a used one what information do I need to make sure I get the right one for her car?
Thanks,
Erik...
