Hey i was replacing my coolant fluid and went to pull out the coolant plug on the bottom of the radiator and noticed that the top half that help you get a grip on turning the plug chipped off. I tried getting all kind of pliers in and around it and also drove a flathead screw driver right into the center to try and screw it out, all failed. Is there any other method that i can use that will not hurt my radiator. Thanks !

I have heard from several other people the same problem. The drain plugs don’t open properly, and even if they do, they are prone to being clogged.

Imo, return the drain plug to the closed position, then remove the lower radiator hose to drain your system.

    Good luck.

When I broke a drain plug (petcock) I used a grab-it (easyout's, etc) drill thing and then just bought a new one, but had to get one online since no store around me had one.

There is no room to drill, room is limited. I had an issue as well, there was nothing to grab on to, I boguthmy car used, so who knows what happened. I ended up using pliers to turn it and did not damage it. Once out, you can find them at local auto stores.

i have ran into this problem on several cars. you are limited, pliers or sum kind of grab and turn, once you turn these things u got to sort of wiggle and pull straight out, it will drain. if you want the whole piece out it should keep comming straight out after the first initial turn. i have been succesful with my small vise grips, not really clamping on the drain peacock handle but just open enough to slide in there and turn. i have had to BREAK these out carefully. u may have a small end piece that stays in the system but what are you gonna do? replace it and you are done. if all else fails you have to remove the radiator, or remove something else to gain access. good luck. ps remember its only plastic.

I must have been lucky then, becuase I didn't have to drill the one I broke. It was hollow, so I just put a grab-it in there with my hands then just got pliers and turned the bit and it came out with no issues.

I need your help too.. please don't type the title in a way that makes me want to skip by the thread.

Some draincocks aren't intended to come out, some are. New ones are usually available at local parts stores.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
