2001 Grandprix gt has abs light on. It didn't come with a Low trac light or button.

The abs light cant be reset or read with my scanner... SO I went and got a program on my laptop with abs compatibility. It still will not read the 2001 abs.

It reads my 2000 buick regal and my 2001 Silverado, which both have abs issues, just fine

I cant visually see anything wrong with any of the four hub bearings. Its a customers car, so I don't want to go buy another scanner that may or may not work with this car. Especially if the one I already have works for my cars.

Anything I can do? I tried the voltmeter test on the hubs but couldn't get a reading maybe I was doing it wrong.. Any info will help.

Did you spin the hub while you had the meter on it? Should show some sort of voltage when moving. Other than that check the harness itself that comes off the hub. They can be bad a few inches back in the wiring due to dry wire and corrosion. If the hub checks out ok then I'd replace the harness side.

Is your trac light bulb working? Pontiacs are stupid with reading abs, non of the inexpensive scanners will read thanks to gm.

I'll try the multi meter reading again and see if I can get something. I will also just pull the loom off the wires to see if anything is broken.

@ swiggles, Your right about that i hate this abs bs. But I wasn't aware of this car having a trac light on the dash.

Everytime I've had an ABS issue, the TRAC light and ABS light are on. TRAC button/light is on the far right of the DIC.....

that button should turn off the traction control. if its lit up full time the abs is not working and neither is tc. you also get the abs light and brake light when the abs is not working.

if you cant find a bad wire to a hub or play in a hub would mean a bad hub and sensor being the cause. best to get it scanned at a shop for codes, or you can end up chasing your tail tossing money at it.

oh to ad, if when you first fire the car up if the abs light is not on asap, its likely a hub gone bad if it comes on with in the first few feet of driving. or while driving down the road.

if the light is on full time its likely a busted wire or bad connection.

Here is my how2 write up.

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...BS-Diagnostics

You need to set the multimeter to "ohms" not "volts". You can use the meter at the main unit to check the hub sensors and wiring to all 4 wheels. If you get an open circuit you then go to that wheel to see if it's the hub sensor or the wiring

I found out on the last repair that the connectors to the wheel hubs go bad too....Dorman makes a replacement harness that gives you the hub connector and about 3' of wire to splice into the main harness.

Pico makes one too; don't buy it, the plug is to small. I found that out that hard way. LOL

Thanks for all the help. @Burbman your write up was exactly what I needed, worked like a charm. It ended up being a broken wire to the driver side front hub. I just reconnected them for now, and the abs light is off.. Thanks again.
