no, you can get them on ebay or from dealer. I got mine both new on ebay for about 25 to 30 per unit. You can also program them yourself at least for the 03 and newer. You have to look because different years have different remotes. They are available if you look. There is another thread on here with details as far as step by step how to program them. This is assuming that your car came with them to begin with. If you are unsure call the dealer and give them the VIN, they will be able to tell you if it came with it.

Yeah, it's very simple to do. I did it with mine cause my remote was a pos. Just get on ebay and find one and all you have to do to program it is like take a fuse out (mall pgm or smthn?) and hold the lock and unlock keys for like 7 seconds or smthn. It's really easy, only took me like 5 mins or less. And no I didn't have to go to the dealer so don't worry about that. Oh and mine was a '99 so no problem with the year either.

you are close but it takes a little more than that to get it in program mode. I believe it is seven steps. You have to pull the fuse, then do a certain sequence with the key, then it beeps to let you know you are in prog mode, and then you hold the buttons. It doesnt take long, but you do have to do all those steps pretty fast, or it will not let you into prog mode. There is a step by step on here on a different thread. It is not hard, it may take you a couple trys to get it perfect...

Yeah you are right. I'm pretty sure it explains it in your manual if you still have it. And the remote I bought came with the instructions to do it as well.

I just ordered this one last week, got it today and took all of 5 minutes to program with the instructions it came with. I have a 97 GTP so it should work for yours too!!
