I have an 98 gtp with 93000. Just bought the car 2 months ago. The car just started to die when drove or standing still. When I go to restart it, I can't hear the pump running. It'll drive fine for a while then do it again. It don't leave a code. I replaced the MAF sensor per other threads on here. I also replaced the fuel pump relay. I haven't checked the pressure on the pump yet. I just wanted to get some in put from you guys. Thanks

sounds like I would check on the fuel pump. Sometimes if you can access it through the hatch in the trunk, you can tap it, and it will start to work again(this might save you in a pinch.) If that is the problem, replace it ASAP.

Bought a fuel injector pressure guage today. Going to check it later today. Is there anything else that I can check without an scanner? Like I said I replaced the maf, pump relay, and it only does it after driving or letting it set and run for a while. Thanks

Ok, checked the fuel pressure. It was 43lbs. until it kicked off. I tapped on the top of the pump with a rubber malet and didn't come back on. Even though I changed the relay, I bent the 85 tab and didn't work. Well after I put everything back togather the way it should be, the pump kicked on but the battery was dead. So could the alt., starter or battery be causing the fuel pump to kick off when car warms up?

The starter will not cause the pump to shut off. A bad alt or battery not holding a charge from a bad alt will certainly cause the pump to shut off if voltage drops low enough... The pump will run when it sees at least 11 volts or higher.

Also, when the car dies, you will probably not hear the pump since the system is already pressurized. The pump may make a noise for a quick second or two, but that is it.

And if your battery died just from testing the pump, I think you have a charging issue. And if the alt is bad, the pump needs electrical power and a bad alt will cause the car to eventually die, thus cut power to the pump. The car will run off the battery until it too is dead, or very low on voltage.

I would pull the alt, have it checked. Check the battery too make sure it have a full charge and for good measure, change your fuel filter. Then see how the car runs.

what type of voltage do you see at the batt when the car is running for a while?

The alt. was only putting out 9.8-10.2 volts. I had the alt. checked and behold the thing was bad. So changed it out and fixed my issues. Thanks to everyone for the help. Jason
