Hopefully this is posted in the right forum, if not I apologize.

So I have an 06 Grand Prix, base model. I only drive maybe 5000KM's/year so it only really goes into the shop once a year (to keep the warranty valid) unless I have a problem. So it's at the dealer now and they just called to tell me it was ready, I asked if there were any problems and they mentioned that the Rack and Pinion were "sweating".

Now I'm not all that knowledgeable when it comes to cars, so this means little to me. However I do know that I trust the guys at the dealerships about as far as I can throw my car, if it wasn't for the extended warranty I wouldn't be going there in the first place.

I would assume that the Rack and Pinion "Sweating" would mean condensation, however I don't know what this means, should I be worried, the guy at the dealership just said to not worry about it and they would take a look at it next time it's in, but that will probably be another year.

I'll talk to the guy at the dealership tonight when I pick up my car but I was hoping that some of you might be able to give me a second opinion first.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    James

I have never heard of any steering component sweating??? I have heard of weeping, but that is different I would think. Did you ask what exactly he meant by sweating and if this is covered by warranty? He did say this after you asked if there were any problems.....Otherwise I have no idea what this could be.....unless he meant weeping as in leaking........you should find out though if it is under warranty.

The guy you talked to sounds like a dumbass. For something to "sweat", it has to remove heat considerably. For that to happen to a rack and pinion, is physically impossible by design.

    Thanks for the replies.

So I went in to pick it up but it was too late and the service department was closed so all I got to deal with was the receptionist who, understandably, didn't know. However I do notice that on the invoice it does say that it has started "Leaking" and not "Sweating" as they said on the phone, they have recommended that it be checked again the next time it's in for service. The invoice also says that my Block Heater is not working and they were supposed to advise on an estimate, which they never did. Being up north a block heater becomes fairly important and I have no idea why they wouldn't bother to mention it.

I'm fairly certain that the Rack and Pinion are covered under warranty and am not sure about the block heater, of course I can't find out until I can get a hold of someone who actually knows something.

Needless to say there will be phone calls placed tomorrow. I hate dealing with these people.

    Thanks again for the info.
