The directions you quoted aren't in the manual. I'll give it a shot today with the one remaing remote. I believe it is in some way active, as a red light was flashing on the top center of the dashboard. I'll let you know the results if this works.

I just tried to program the two fobs and I was unsuccessful. Here's the possible reasons:

    1. Car DOESN'T have remote entry/theft deterrent. (Unlikely, as RPO codes identifying it does are also on my Impala which I know has it.)
    2. When the aftermarket alarm was installed it turned off/disabled the factory system. (Maybe, I can't say.)
    3. The fobs I tried don't have the same FCC code, and thus won't work. (Possibly, but the model year the fobs came from and the model year of my GP are the same)

While in programming mode, I was able to program the light settings (on for a bit when entering and exiting) but nothing else worked. I couldn't program auto lock, as I would get 2 beeps every time I press up or down on the lock button. Is there fuse possibly that was yanked to disable fob use?

well, there's one other scenario... that i just realized... this programming instruction that i posted is from my 97 service manual.... i wouldnt think it has changed, but not sure.

what are the GM part numbers on your fobs?

Busy weekend, slow reply. Entering programming mode was correct, but whether that's how to program fobs, I can't say. Here are the numbers on the back of my fobs.

    GM/UTA 25678792
    FCC ID: KOBUT1BT
    CANADA: 1983 101 393

    Same on both, naturally.
