    Alright so I'm still new to this site and the modding process so I just wanted to hear some opinions on what would be best for me. I have a 2000 gtp and I'm looking to make safe power (little to no kr) while keeping stock mpg's or maybe even increase. Not looking for crazy power and will probably never go lower than a 3.25" pulley.
    Current mods: 180 t-stat, 605's, fuelpump rewire, cermax'd engine and tranny, custom cai, powerlog, and 3"dp without catty. Seeing 1-2 kr with 2.5 spikes.
    Mods that will be done for sure: 104's, overkill pcm, heat wrap crossover, and mps with 3.4" pulley. (maybe 3.3"?)
    The questionable: 1.8rr or meth injection. Price and installation time are similar. I think rockers would be better mpg wise but methanol would kill kr better. I don't know, opinions?

    I wouldn't go any lower than 3.4. And I would go for rockers first. Sounds like your car needs to breath. I bet if you put those rockers on your KR will go away.

    Also I had way more KR than you do and i ported my SC and TB and killed my almost 3-6* of KR. Now I have 0* KR just by buying and installing the ported TB and SC from Reptile.

    I think I spent 200.00 all together in parts.

    You could sell your PLog and DP and go with headers. That would kill your KR probably too and you would set yourself up better for down the road modding and never have to worry about doing anything else to the exhaust side of your engine.

    Thank you for the input. I considered headers but they just didn't seem cost effective for what I'm wanting. Plus I work in my gravel driveway so they would be a pita for me to install and Im definintely not paying someone to do it,so I'll just have to suffer lol. I was considering porting my s/c and blocking off the coolant passages, but Im thinking meth injection would be equal to that?
    I guess i was kinda hoping methanol would be enough to let me run a 3.3. Do you think just the rockers would keep me close to 0* kr with a 3.4?

    FYI there are enough people in the city that you dont have to do this on a gravel driveway if you decided to go with headers.

    meth would be more effective for running more boost without knocking, but the rockers would make the car feel better because it would give it some top end that the cars lack from the factory. either is a good choice, but i think rockers would be more suited to your needs.

    and if you do meth. you do know theres gonna be alot of tuning involved right? and youll get the full potential of the rockers when you get it tuned also. not talking any canned PCM crap either. go for some real tuning from someone close that knows what they are doing or a shop that has a good reputation. tuning is a huge thing

    Rockers seem to be the consensus so thats what I'm leaning towards. Yeah I know tuning is crucial. After a quick internet search XP-racing seems to be the only place around here thats worthwhile but a tune is $450! Thats more than twice as much as an Overkill after the core charge. Would it really be that much better? I guess I could afford it but Id rather not have to lol.

    going from stock rockers to 1.8rr's made a big diffrence for my car even on the stock tune.

    i dont know if you could just slap the meth kit on and feel a diffrence like the rockers.

    either way the game is gonna cost money, keep saving up...

    no, the meth kit will not give a performance gain alone. you will need to tune it for more timing and/or run more boost (smaller pulley) to feel the gains of the meth.

    That's what I was thinking with meth, i could run a smaller pulley. Do you think I could run a 3.25 or 3.3 pulley with the meth. and how would that compare to the rockers with a 3.4?
    The hptuners looks good but seems to be something where you really have to know your stuff to use. Could this be used on a 2000 silverado with a 4.8l as well? If so I might be able to get a friend to split the costs with me

    one for one, 3.4 versus 3.4 (with no knock on either setup), the rocker car SHOULD have more top end and pull on the meth car. however, they would be very similar in terms of power.

    when i was running the meth i was running 100% (no water) methanol and i was more using it as an octane booster than anything. i ran a 3.2 pulley with no knock on low timing for a long time and the car felt strong. every so often you could smell the meth burning up in the intake. i never got around to seeing how much timing and boost i could run, but i had a 3.0 pulley for a reason. i ran this setup non-intercooled with modded 1.9 rockers and S&S headers.

    yeah in the spring im gonna be running it 100% meth with a 3.0 pulley. doing a northstar TB, chucking my wizaired and doing a HAI with an elbow where the meth is injected before the TB and after the MAF, its stealthy. im also doing the things that go with it of course. 42 lb injectors. racetronix fuel pump. fuel pump rewire. doing smoothflow idler pulleys too for the hell of it. and of course the mods in my sig and most importantly the TUNE from tune time.

    yes it can be used with the gm 4.8l...

    the tuning does take some time and patience to learn. there are forums out there, but they to have spent alot of time learning them selves and dont want to answer all your little questions so alot of searching is required.

    if your willing to tackle the task, your own tuner is VERY worth it.

    I'd steer away from the whole meth idea until you get some more mods. You just won't benefit from it and that's not really the way to go about dropping pulleys.

    Go for the Rockers or save for a cam IMO. They are right about the tuning. Meth can be a real PITA to tune for. And you can get your car tuned for 150 or less by several people on the boards.


    Again just my $0.02.

    Okay now I'm pretty dead set on the roller rockers first. As far as tuning goes, I still don't know what to do . Overkill is really good from what ive read but i still think I will eventually do methanol so... bad idea? Are there any members around OKC that can do tuning?

    yes i would do the rockers first. your not gonna run methanol with just an overkill PCM lol. its a ***** to tune for but when its tuned its sick... i would definitely go with the tune over a canned pcm.

    id do the rockers and once you have enough saved for tuning do the meth. because meth has alot of tuning involved. im getting mine done in the spring lucky for me the place i go to tunes your car and if you ever need to go back to get tuned again its no charge
