MY CAR CLUNCKS WHEN I HIT A BUMP AND IT DOESNT MATTER WHICH SIDE OF THE CAR OR WHICH WHEEL. I HAD IT CHECKED AT THE DEALER WHEN I PURCHASED IT AND THE DIDNT FIND ANYTHING. I WAS WONDERING IF THIS IS COMMON IN THE 04 GRAND PRIX OR IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENTION. THE CAR HANDLES FINE AND NO VIBRATION JUST CLUNCKING.

My 04 gt2 rattles over small bumps and railroad tracks. Same thing nothing apparently loose and handles well. only 29000 miles on mine. It is irritating though.

I've done a fair amount of reading on this same problem. The strut mounts are the most frequent problem I've seen.

There is rubber molding in the mount that allows it some flex, but it can wear away over time and cause the clunking/tapping etc.

There are many great videos on the subject here..

East Liverpool is rapidly destroying my 97 GT. Had pretty much the entire front suspension rebuilt when I got the car 2 years ago and now my rear struts are leaking. I'm starting to get a bit of a thunking now too and I just figured it was from losing hydraulic fluid from the struts. You may wanna check and tighten up the bolt that holds on the spare tire/jack and see if that helps anything.
