    my problem is that when i accelerate my tach drops to 0 as i accelerate and when i let off the gas it jumps up to where it should be. any ideas on why it does this???

    Well the tach signal comes directly, I believe, and only from the crankshaft position sensor. Though I would expect a host of other issues to accommodate a failure of the crankshaft position sensor. But as far as I know, the only source for that tach signal is that sensor. Its possible that its is just worn out or degraded and not able to keep up with faster signal transitions.
