Hey this is my first post but I need help. I have a Pontiac Grand Prix GT V6. What it is doing is when you get in and crank the car it starts up pretty! However when I start and It gets to 2,000-3,000 rpms it starts to studder and it feels like if I put the gas all the way down it wont go any faster. However if I let off the gas a little it will steady and shift until it gets back to 2,000-3,000 again. I can't get past 40 mph. We just got the crankshaft position sensor replaced but that was not the problem. I have been told it could be anything from that to the Transmission filter, the converter, ext. Has anyone had this problem and know what it is? We keep tossing money at it and just want it fixed right. Thanks any questions just ask.

Take your car to a local auto parts store. Advance, Autozone... etc... Most of them will Scan your car for trouble codes. Once you have the trouble code numbers, either let us know or start researching them.

Po300 is multiple misfire.... does the check engine light flash?

Here is another members story about that code. http://www.grandprixforums.net/f65/p...code-4990.html

I would suggest to change plugs/wires first.

Classic catalytic converter problem. It breaks internally and blocks exhaust flow. Mine was plugged so bad I couldnt go over 10mph. I had the p300 code as well. GM will fix the problem for free by replacing the catalytic converter if your car has less than 120,000 miles on it. They changed mine and my car runs like new.

Thanks a ton! I called our GM place in Hampton VA. They said the warranty was for 8 years or 80000 miles. Which my car is 8 years and 105000 miles. I don't know why its different here! Thanks for the help, any other info is appreciated.

Tell them to look up GM Special Policy Adjustment #05551. Normally warranty items are 8 years 80,000 miles, but since its the cat , the EPA made GM extend the warranty to 10 years, 120,000 miles regardless of ownership. If they still wont cooperate, go to another GM dealership.

Thank you guys so much. We took it to the shop and they said YES it is the cat converter. However they still dont think that its covered. So we called the head GM company and he made us a case number and said that it was covered so now we just have them talking to eachother. I hope it works

What I did was go up to the service manager (person to person, not on the phone) and have them search for 05551. It will come up and have the 10 years, 120k, yadda yadda. I dont know why dealerships like to give people a hard time....

Swash, I only know this because it happened to me!!
