When i was buying a can of seafoam the guy working there told me he used to do the same thing, but with water. He said it kinda steam cleans the engine..has anyone had any experience with this? is it safe/effective? thanks

WHAT?? UM NO. the point of seafoam is to take out water... putting water into your engin does not seem like a good idea in any case.....

Yes, it is touted as being just as effective. I prefer the Seafoam route, but it is not used to remove water.

Dont internal steam clean unless you are 100% sure you know exactly what you are doing, yes it work, not its not good in the long run.

Do the seafoam and forget it. seafoam actually eats away at the hardened carbon dceposits, the steam just takes off what it can get off and thats it, left with a rather turbulent intake track.

Now, you can use up to 1/2 qt of auto tranny fluid, dexrons, with your motor oil to help clean the engine better and offer more protection to the seals then what motor oil offers. tranny fluid has alot more detergents and anti foaming agents then oil does.

if you need to pass emmissions, try a bottle of isoprophyl alcohol, works wonders.

I don't know if you have ever done seafoam or not but below is a link thats good.
I take a soda bottle usually a clear one, make sure you have the screw cap and cut of the bottm of the bottle or even in half is fine also make sure the bottle is clean.
I have some clear plastic tubing for the fishtank I think and the size you need is 7/16" x 5/16", about 12" will do.
With a unibit or step bit I drill a hole in the bottle cap 3/8" and slide the tubing into the hole about 1/4" then attach the cap to the bottle and with electrical tape I tape the cap to the hose and the bottle just so the hose doesn't slip out.
Dont drill the hole too big or it will leak the tubbing should fit tight in the hole.
When you have done that disconnect a vacuum line and connect the hose to that vacuum line, it fits perfect and will not drip seafoam on the engine.
It's a good idea to keep a rag or paper towel on hand in case it does drip.
I wouldn't try the water cleaning. Check out the link.
