thats gunna shut them all down. he is wanting to have just the amber lights on which means he would want to move it to the setting underneath the auto so you click it once away from you. but then you have to turn it back to the auto when you get out of the car or it leaves the amber lights on and dings light crazy

that doesn't work on my car, seems like GM decided the driver can't adjust their lights so its programmed into the PCM

ever since i installed my HID's, i've had the service parking lamps light come on every time i start my vehicle. i didn't think anything of this until i started troubleshooting why my one bulb burned out. i checked the fuse, and it was blown, so i put another one in, and it blew right as i put it in (thats what she said)...so now i know i have a short somewhere. i don't know what to do. i went back to my stock lights for now, and that still didn't work. any ideas for me to try?

OK, what fuse blows? The stock headlight fuse or do you have a relay harness for your HID's? If you have a relay harness and that fuse blows one of your HID ballasts is pulling too much current during start up.

Try to elaborate as much as you can. I have an HID kit on my 2007 GXP but I had to do some 'altering' to get everything to work right. Give me as much info as possible and we'll get those HID's working.

well, my parking lamp fuse keeps blowing. i'm getting a 'service parking lamps' message when i start the vehicle. i've checked all bulbs, and wires...all good. my headlamps work now that i've taken them back to stock. i figured out that my drivers side ballast is now bad. i also found that my tail lights are not coming on when i turn my headlights on manually, nor do they come on at night with them at the AUTO position. i am taking it to the dealer tomorrow to see if they can figure out if it is the turn signal switch. and to answer your question, i do not have a relay harness for my HID's.

As far as your ballasts are concerned:

No matter what any manufacturer tells you, you NEED a relay harness when upgrading stock halogen headlamps to HID. Each HID ballast will pull between 10 to 15 amps at start up which is a lot more than the stock headlight harness can handle. As a result the ballasts will fry within a few months.

As far as the parking lamps go:

Do you get a message on the DIC about the rear parking lamps being out? Regardless, have you checked those fuses? It seems strange that you'd have problems with the parking lamps just because of having installed an HID kit as you've mentioned that the ballasts just plugged directly into the stock headlamp harness.

Finally, are your daytime running lamps the parking lights?

yes, i get a message about the parking lamps being out...not a message about the 'rear parking lamps'. i have checked fuses. they blow every time i put a new one in. and yes, my running lamps are headlights and parking lights. my signals still work though. seems as though the turn signal switch may have gone out. what do you think?

    OK, a few things:

So your parking lamps are always on when the car is in gear (just the fronts) and also the headlamps? Can you turn off just the headlamps with the override switch? On my GXP I only had headlight DRL's and I could turn them off with the AUTO override or by turning on the fogs.

If you have DRL's in the headlamps (as well as the parking lamps) did you ever attempt to turn them off or override them when you had the HID's installed? I imagine if you left them on the HID's would have just flickered hopelessly when the DRL's were on which would clearly damage the ballasts as well.

Finally, I don't think that the turnsignal switch, or any other switch is the problem. I say that because you said that the parking lamps wouldn't work even with them coming on automatically at dusk. If fuses keep blowing there is a short somewhere in the electrical system or there is a problem with the headlamp's lighting module.

If you could answer the above questions it would help and in the meantime I will go to my local GM dealership and get a wiring schematic for your DRL's and see what I can find out. Those schematics helped my eliminate my DRL's on my 01 Aurora.

Just a side note, guys - I found that if you hold the headlight switch in "off" position as you turn on the ignition, the DRLs will not activate when you put it in gear.

It works during the day. At night the headlights will come on regardless.
