Short of attempting to completely eliminate the DRL's for an HID kit, you could run a relay harness to power the HID's. The DRL's (operating on reduced power) will still have enough voltage to turn on the relay which will in turn draw a full 12 Volts from the battery to the HID ballasts. The only problem is that the HID's would always be on. Properly installed HID's will give you anywhere from 2000-3000 operational hours compared to 300-1000 with halogen so you wouldn't wear them out by having them always on. It would be more of a matter of just NOT wanting the DRL's.
Alternatively, has anyone considered this:
Run a relay harness to the HID kit that is triggered by the parking lamps. Doing this would mean that the DRL's wouldn't interfere with HID operation since the parking lamps don't come on with the DRL's. Also, since the parking lamps automatically come on with the headlights the stock headlight switch will still operate normally. The drawback to this would be that you couldn't run JUST the parking lamps WITHOUT the headlights coming on. Does anyone care about that? Probably not. Another problem would be the HID's coming on when the parking lights flash when the doors are unlocked. This would be a problem because they would blink on then off with the parking lamps which can damage the bulbs and ballasts. I think the parking lights blinking with the locking and unlocking of the doors can be disabled via the DIC so this would not be a problem then. I did this on my buddy's 2002 Tahoe because he wanted the headlights to stay on when the highbeams were triggered because on the Tahoe the headlights go out when the highbeams come on which means you can't see anything 10' in front of your car. I wired the headlights to come on with the parking lamps and everything operated normally. This is a similar concept to what I am proposing for the Grand Prix.
Finally, I have a 2007 GXP and when I deactivate the AUTO headlight feature my DRL's go off. I have no lights on at all, it's sweet. Is this just an option on the GXP model or are there some DIC settings that can deactivate the DRL's?

On your turn signal stalk, there is the headlight band that has the headlight, parking lamp and "AUTO" position. Turn that band down, it will click back into position. This toggles on and off the "AUTO" headlamp setting. It should have no bearing on the DRL but for some reason on my GXP it turns off the headlamp DRL's. Turning on my foglights also cuts my DRL's as well. Is this just with the GXP model?

As for the DRL I can do that on my 07 GT also

You might want to consider using a harness even without the DRL's. The stock headlight harness cannot put out the required "in-rush" current of HID systems and therefore can cause the ballasts to go bad over time...that is unless you are using a digital HID kit that uses a significantly less amount of current at start up. BTW, nice Prix.

okay, all of this is really confusing me...i just installed my 8k HID's yesterday, and I know I need to disable the DRL's. I currently have a piece of cloth over the light sensor on the dash so that my normal headlights are on all the time. What is the easiest way to disable the DRL's so that I can take my oakley sleeve off of the diode...lol

on my 07 I can't turn off the headlights while it is in D, no amount of playing with the turn signal stock makes a difference, could it be that cars built for Canada are hard wired to not allow the DRL's to be turned off at all?

no its not safe for your DRLS to be on cuz they run at a lower wattage during the day then they do at night and thats what burns the HIDS up just keep the cloth over the diode or just turn your light off before you start your car every time

you are completely WRONG
on the 04 and up grand prix there is no change in wattage or voltage from the BCM , the headlights are turned on by the BCM whenever DRL's are required. other GM models do use a lower voltage or duty cycle, but I've had my kit for a while with no problems. I was originally worried about this too, however so far so good.

you do not need the DRL delete , simply install the kit and go with it. sometimes during the day, I find I don't want my DRL's on , so I just flip my auto switch down and that turns the DRL's off until you turn them back on again (or until you remove the key)

well i was just going off what some one had said on this forum that had looked into this awhile back.

so for me to turn off my DRL during the day and just have the amber lights on where the fog lights are would take a change in the PCM? I see many GP's in my area like this and it looks nice

it shouldn't, just flick the slider towards you on the light stock running from the steering wheel, and let it slide back into the AUTO position when you have your car running. that will turn off the lights, but allow the lower amber lights to remain on...
