Hey guys, I am not particularly car savvy outside of general maintenance. I have a '91 Buick Regal Custom that just did while I was just cruising home one night. It didn't shake or make any noise, it just died and I coasted to a stop. I have been trying to trouble shoot it but so far have had fruitless efforts. I was just dropping in to see if anyone would be able to possibly point me in the right direction or shoot some ideas so I can get the beast running again. Thanks guys.

This happened to me a few months back. i took it to my regular mechanic and he ran some tests on it, and it was the fuel filter. which was pretty inexpensive to fix i think it ran me 60 bucks.

I did run a computer on it and it didn't throw any codes but I didn't expect it to, it sat all winter and the battery went dead at one point in time before I threw a charger on it. The battery is fine, since then I've tested it and it's been charged and I've also tried jumping it and throwing a 200amp charger on it and starting it. It turns but won't turn over, it's strange. When it died it lost engine power, the lights and everything were still on just fine, it literally was like I dropped it into nuetral and turned the key off, it stopped smooth as butter and I was just cruising home goin about 35 when this happened.

I'll check the fuel filter, I was thinking something along those lines or possibly and issue with a coil pack or a couple friends said it might be a crank sensor possibly. I appreciate your guys help, thanks.

The same thing happened to me, it was so wierd i was going like 60 down the road and my engine shutoff. and it coasted to a stop. so let me know how things work for ya.

The ignition control module going out can cause an abrupt shutdown of a car while driving. Also, the battery can still be completely shot. Remove the ignition control module (located under your coils) and take it and your battery to Autozone, and have them test both. Also, check your main fuse block under the hood for a blown ignition fuse or something of the sort.
