slp 1.8 roller rockers and 105 valve springs.

okay now i have a few questions. i was talking with tdc on how to install the rockers. so pretty much, i remove the old retainers, install the new retainers and bolt the new rockers down. no new push rods or anything. just simple bolt in new pedistals and rockers and tighten down??

second question. the rockers are 1.8's. how retardedly insaine would it be to put washers underneith the pedistails to acheive a higher ratio? say one underneith each bolt??

third. how do you change out springs?? i was trying my best to look threw the oil cap and the springs seem to have a flat tip on top (i would guess thats what the rollers need to roll on) so if the springs are not bolted down on top, how do they come out???

    thats all for now

You will need two tools to remove the valve springs. 1. A valve spring compressor 2. A little adapter so you can fill each cylinder with air.
I used this style of compressor. Manley Valve Spring Compressor - JEGS
This is the exact air fitting set I used JEGS Air Hold Fitting Set - JEGS.
To use the compressor you have to put an old rocker bolt back in and then hook the lever under it and push the spring down with the bottom. Then you will see the keeps, I used a magnet to get these out. They will be loose. I would advise you to pick up some new/ extra valve keeps, because you will probably drop some like I did.

I was under the impression that 1.8rr don't require any spring upgrades. Thats the only reason I was looking into them over the 1.9's.

why would you get 1.8s if youre getting a spring upgrade? 1.9s would have been better for you.

You're gonna have to explain the logic of that one to me. Washers can change the lifter preload, but I don't see how they could change the rocker ratio.

You aren't required to change them with the 1.9s, either, it's all kind of a gray area. It's a good idea, even with the 1.8s, if you're going to be upping your shift points at all.

you dont have to change the springs. i was getting an xp, thats why i have the springs, i got the aluminum 1.8 roller rockers for a killer deal, thats why i have them.

i might not even put the springs on yet. its just for safty incase i want to rev past 6k.

i thought the pedistal was what gave the ration. i wasent sure. if that was the case i would like to try and raise the pedistal to make a higher ration. but i guess thats not the case.

Well he has what he has.

I would not put washers underneath any of the bolts. That won't do what you are thinking it will.

Use the compresor that he mentioned above. You can actually rent it from most any parts store to cut down on some of the cost.

When you are doing the valve springs be sure to not let the cylinder fall all the way into the cylinder. Or else you'll have to take the head off.

Make sure you alse have a little magnet or just a pick up tool with a magnet. Either will work. That way none of the valve locks fall into the engine through the oil return holes. They also may be stuck in the retainer. So after you bolt the end of the lever down with the rocker bolt and go to push down to compress the valve spring the valve stem won't go through the retainer releasing the keepers because there stuck. So all you would do is break the seal on the valve with the air hold in place.

What you can do if you are carefull is take a socket that will fit on the retainer and taker a hammer and hit the socket. It will always break them loose that way.

If you look at the retainers I sent you you can see how they are tapered. In a cone shape. The valve locks have a groove that fit inside of the valve stem and keep them in place. Then the lifter slides over the locks and prevents them from expanding and comming off of the valve stem. The spring holds pressure against the lifter at all times.

and im sure these aluminum full roller rockers walk circles compared to 1.9 modified. they save over 400 grams compared to stock rockers and the rotating mass due to its roller tip is decressed.

200$ shipped from canada. cant beat that.

Agreed. I ran 1.9 modified with stock springs. Shifted at 6300 RPM'S wich was probably unnessary.

Roller rockers are far better than non-rollers. In the mustang they have been proven to give 22HP and don't see why it would be different from us. Same ratio also. Just by switching to roller's.

Some will have more play then others depending on how much you're valves are opened.

None are suppose to have ''PLAY'' but when you are tightening them down some will open the valve more than others becuase of that.

What pedistals are you using? The stock ones or the ones that came with the rockers...Just wondering.

well i tried putting them on the stock pedistols and they wouldent fit. when i put the stock rockers back on then went snug with the pushrods and the springs, it actually pushed the springs down some. when i tightened down the 1.8's with there pedistol, they were just resting on the springs and not touching the pushrods at all. some had a little less play than others because i considered maybe the motor just has to be turned over, but it was to much play for me to chance.
