Well ... I went to pop my hood earlier today and when I reached down it felt like it was stuck, so I tugged a bit harder ... nothing, got out to make sure my hood wasn't messed up or anything looked unusual, everything was ok, tried to pop the hood again and it pulled out making a popping noise, but the hood didn't pop and the release lever swings freely? The cable is still connected ... I couldn't have snapped the cable before breaking the plastic lever could I?

Also, is there any other way I can get my hood open?

tap on the front edge of the hood with the side of your hand, you probably have a dry latch (used to be common on older GM cars)

I tried what you said, but it didn't work ... right away.

After getting off work today I messed with the release lever and it was back to normal, the hood popped right open?

apply some lithium grease to the latch. Don't use wd 40 as it is a cleaner not a lubricant, you want something that sticks

You don't say what year your Gp is? If it is a 97+ then take out the two screws holding in your right front grill and reach in and manually release the hood.

My standard tool box is usually adequate for such problems.

Ding ding ding. That is the first thing I thought cause it happened to me a few months ago. If this happens to anyone, just park it in a garage over night and see what happens. I thought mine snapped cause I pulled on it really hard and the hood popped but the lever was really loose and I couldn't get my hood shut so I parked it in my garage just in case some hooligans were walking by and decided to open my hood and disconnect my battery and steal all my audio equipment. Took off of work the next day to work on replacing the hood release line and tried to shut it one more time for the hell of it and it stayed down.

Damm Sabrewings, I looked in my tool box for those professional tools you showed. All I have available is a 1960's M60-A1 tank with a 105mm cannon which I used with much success in VietNam. However, my 1994 Grand Prix hood is proving to be more demanding than ....well, you know what I mean. Again, How do I unlatch the hood when the cable is broken. The Battery is now dead and I'm sure I will get a ticket cause I can't start the car to move it for the city street cleaning crew.

May have to go up from under the car (between the bumper and radiator) to actuate it manually.

Trying to get an answer to this question is harder than taking the little blue pill. I have been under the car, mud all over me, I have poked every hole, have switched every which way on the front latch. And you know what???...I finally got the hood open. As I was looking from underneath, I saw the end of the cable dangling. It was broke for sure. Good thing I am on vacation this week or I would have gone POSTAL...lol. Anyway, tomorrow as soon as the beer wears off from my celabration, I will take a couple of pictures of the latch, the cable area and the secondary latch in hopes that others will not have to go through what I have.
