The caliper bracket on my 2001 GTP feels very loose in the guide pin bores. It doesn't just slide in and out as a floating caliper should, it rocks excessively as though the bores in the caliper bracket for the guide pins are worn out. Of course the guide pins are fine. The calipers are NAPA "reman", so probably just a new piston seal, dust boot, guide pins and rattle-can spray job. Pardon my cynicism.Clearly they did not bore and re-bush the caliper bracket guide pin bores.
I see we can no longer buy caliper brackets new from GM, but I can buy "reman" caliper brackets from the usual snake oil salesmen. What exactly does "reman" mean; rattle can spray paint job and a shiny cardboard box?
The complaint is a faint but annoying high-pitched squeal rolling down the road, goes away with application of the brakes. I have affected it to some extent by greasing the pad backs, pad guides and caliper guide pins, but it doesn't really cure the problem. Pretty sure those calipers shouldn't be mounted in sloppy bracket bores.
Anybody here have experience buying a reman bracket where they actually bushed the bores?
Thanks,
