Thread: Reusing the stock mufflers?

The flange on my resonator is rotted so I was planning on replacing the resonator and y-pipe. I want to keep my original mufflers, though cause I like the way they sound sort of growly without being too loud.

I know the factory setup is welded, so how hard is it to separate the mufflers from the y-pipe?

I'm just trying to get a game plan together before I get in... if I need to replace the mufflers too I have some research to do on what I want. Kind of aggressive but not obnoxious loud... I start my car in the morning before the sun is up and my neighbors like me, lol.

I was going to grab the flanged res that zzp has.

you would need to cut them off and re weld the new pipes in.

i picked up a ebay cat back stock replacement, cost like 300 shipped for res to dual mufflers.

Well, I reviewed some options. Rather than screwing around with trying to salvage the stock mufflers, or messing around with cheap ebay ones, maybe I'll finally get into a catback since I never have.

So, I like the burbly, growly sound of the factory mufflers... I watched some videos of ZZP's catback and meh, it kind of just sounds like a smooth, steady, static bass note that changes pitch with RPM. I know youtube cant give you the most accurate sound, but it sounds kinda dull.

The other one I looked at was the SLP Powerflo system on PFYC and Intense... that sounds really good to me. Like the factory system plus a little volume. I read that it drones pretty bad so I'll tack a resonator on it, most people say that kills the drone.
