    Yes the gen 5 will fit on the series 2 engine. I believe you have to use the LIM from a series 3 though.

    For what you stated above that will run at least 1700 dollars.

    thanks a lot. i think im gonna go with the top swap based on all the imput. it'll be cheaper not buying another engine. mine only has 125k on it anyway. you guys def. know your stuff, thanks a lot for all the help. definitely a good thread to get introduced to the site on.

    Well, Glad we could help. If you need anything else be sure to let us know.BTW if you don't already know you'll need a wiring harness from a 97-03 gtp and a pcm to make everything work right.

    I think one of the axles in the non HD tranny is shorter in length. But i would double check on that.

    im most likely putting a 4t65e-hd on there as well. it should be okay for a little while with the stock trans, but def. getting an hd.

    do the mods for the L36 ss m90 kit fit both gen 3 and gen 5? theyre not real specific on the site.

    You would be better off getting one used. ZZP charges what? 700 for a gen 5? I just sold a ported and polished one for like 450 shipped. Rebuilt too...And it only had 43,000 miles on it to begin with.

    As long as you don't do burnouts with your non-HD, it'll hold up just as well as the HD will. The only significant difference is the differential, which only matters during a burnout. The pinion shaft is thicker and will resist scoring from one wheel burnouts better. But, even it will fail eventually.

    Moral of the story, don't do burnouts. Especially if you don't know how to get both wheels spinning.
