Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
the stock spring would have to broken, or so worn out. looks like it only hit one time.
and judging by the pitting on the valve its not been sealed right for a long time.
maybe you or the last owner over reved the hell out of it one time and caused that, hard to say really.
you could try lapping compound see if it makes the valve and seat mate up again.
my valves were pitted up from sitting, heads came from a jy engine.
before lapping. they all looked about this bad.

after lapping.

valve seats before.

and after.

if the valve is bent you'll know it while lapping it, never know, lapping might save ya from the shop. its worth a shot for 10 bucks for the lapping compound.

Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
Definitely worth a shot, how will I know if it seals or not?
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
install valve and spring and fill the chamber up with some kind of fluid see if it leaks
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
you spin the valve in the head with the compound between them, if its bent one part wont get touched by the compound and you'll see that for sure.
mine didnt leak at all. i installed my heads with the stock springs, then swapped my good springs and rockers. they all sealed up nice when i put compressed air to them.

Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
When I pull the valves to lap them do I need to keep them in order?
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
no, mine are all in a sandwich bag

Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
Opinions on zzps ported and aluminum heads?
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
GOT MONEY TO BURN? not cheap at all.

Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
Their stage 3 iron heads flow more, according to zooomer.

Where's the flow data ? Did the vendor(s) start posting data before / after porting?
i feel like this is gonna go back to the great Chris Hinson debacle
abbottracing heads (never heard of ANY one using their products) , has a higher flow number at .600 lift then zzp AL head, but less the Chris's heads. see where this is going ?
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
I don't have flow data. Just going off what zooomer told me.
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
So stage 3 over aluminum? Going to weigh out what it will cost to get the heads back into running shape when I get a quote.

Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
What cam are you going with?
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
I wouldn't bother with aluminium heads for a supercharged build.
-
Re: Cam install, need advice leaking exhaust valve?
for about a 100 in tools you can port your own like i did. its just time, lots of time you need to invest into the port work. iirc it took me around 20 hours to finish mine. i did it in 2 to 4 hour blocks of time. cause after the first hour you like damn this sucks, but theres no turning back once you start.
or ask your local shop what they would charge. im sure they would be cheaper then zzp.
http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...-Porting-Guide this is the how to i followed. my heads had all the same casting marks to a T.

So you will believe what zoomer told you about heads but not about headers?
Interesting .....

Dude, trust me - do your homework. Do research , google etc and come with your own opinion of which is best for you.

Skip the aluminum heads then. Not worth it. Xp is great on stock heads. You'll obviously pick up some, but not as much. You need a bigger cam to get more out of the heads. I wouldn't even get ported heads for the xp. You can make more hp/ $ elsewhere.
