Thread: Pressure Control Solenoid replace

wifes car thru a P1811 code the other day, only does it when its 90 degrees plus outside and the tranny gets up to temp. Brought it to a shop and wasted $100 having them look at it, quoted 3800 for new transmission, i laughed.

Car has 127,000 miles on it, tranny flushed every 30k. Rest of car is solid, just got done putting all new brake and fuel lines in myself.

Anywas I was thinking of trying, replace pressure control solenoid (going to order from rock auto, AC delco) and a transgo SK 4t65E shift kit (already have in hand).

So my question is, does this seem like a reasonable approach? and is there a good tutorial on how to get access to this? I know you have to drop subframe and title engine toward driver but doesn't seem that bad.

Mind you I have replaced the power steering rack a while back so this won't be that much different, in my mind.

I am planning on buying the K-tool engine support bar because I am sick of using wood and ratchet straps on other cars too.

10-4, I will start with this because I have all the parts on hand at home. I guess I will slap this in and let here drive. If she doesn't say anything, good to go for a while. If if pops up again, I will look at tackling the PCS. If that still doesn't fix it, I guess I will look into a basic transmission from triple edge performance and swap time.

does this sound reasonable?

trans go shift kit, and some lucas....probably cure you for a long time.

go get a transgo shift kit some lucas and your good to go for a while.

dropped the pan last night and this is how it looked inside. Going to work on the shift kit tonight and buying a new Dorman pan with a drain plug because that sucked tyring to drain the fluid last night. I think it looks pretty good for never being dropped in 127,000 miles.

Question, can I reuse the accumulator gasket or should I get a new one? O'rielly's does not carry it.

Otherwise the boss (wife) who drives this is demanding a new car, lol. She says I am spending way too much time in the garage working on the car lately.

tell me about it. We went and looked at new cars tuesday night and showed her the payment of $411 for the next five years. She agreed that if I can fix it, lets run it till she goes down.

Anywas, got the shift kit in last night. Installed a new transmission pan (Dorman with the drain plug), used the felpro gasket (way nicer than the stupid wix one) and throw in 12 ounces of lucas with all new valvoline Dex 3 fluid. Got 30 miles on it so far and is shifting nice with no codes. Today is suppose to be 98F here in minnesota with a dewpoint of 80F so if it is going to slip or act up, it should be today.

Curious what the tranny temp should be, it likes to hang around 195F with a coolant temp around 205F. This is with the A/C on. Mind you it is hot out.

just did a search and looks like that it is pretty normal for summer time.
