Hi everyone, I hope someone out there can help me with a heater/defog problem on my '98 GT. The unit is 3 dials for heater, plus 2 buttons for rear defog and air con.

I have already changed the heater resistor, as the old one was rusty, and the heater only worked on setting 5. Still doesn't work on 1-4 though. The rear defog button also doesn't work every time, and won't work at all if the heater is on. Sometimes the defog just clicks when you press the button, and comes on eventually after a few presses.

The front lights also go off if I'm driving along and turn the heater on!

I'm already in the process of ordering a new rainwater deflector, but could my actual heater controls be bad, or might there be another problem?

Needless to say this won't be an easy fix if parts are required, because of where I am!!!

    Gaz

I think you might have a bad ignition switch. They sometimes cause problems for the heater and other accessories.

Wouldn't that affect the starting of the car, because it starts and runs just fine?

Is it a big job to fix? What's involved, etc?

Sorry to be a pain but I've never had a car do this before!

That is a link to the ignition switch replacement. I am not sure this is your problem tho. I would wait for someone else to chime in and see what they have to say too.

    Thanks for your help!

Forgot to mention, car alarm sometimes goes off for about 5 seconds, the stops. No animals/people near the car!
