I totaled my 02 GP GT and I'm going to look at this GTP tomorrow. I know it's a little up there in the mileage, but is it worth the price he's asking? Besides the typical LIM gasket, any other things I should look for/ask about?

that sweet old school phone adds $$ to value.

Seriously, it looks clean...but be ready to replace 4th gear clutch hub...its not IF you lose 4th/overdrive, you will eventually and it's not a bad job to replace, but mention this and see if the seller will come down any.

Was the 4th gear clutch hub common only to the HD trans? In 178k on my GP GT I never had any problems with the trans, that's why I was wondering.

That second one the body looks like it's been through the wringer. Honestly the first one is almost the same mileage for $50 less plus the drive. The one I linked has a known history, guy has owned it since 98 and my father works with him.

That one isn't bad either. What's your budget? It's helpful to know exactly what you're looking for besides just a gp. Like 04+? Options? Etc.

On your first post and the subject here, the original ad you posted, that car looks nice. If you know the history, and trust the previous owner, that goes a long way. Driving it is the only way to really know. Make sure you let it get up to temp (engine and trans) and give it hell. Then you'll know. It's not a bad price, but you can get the newer style for that number. Keep that in mind and talk em down if you really want it.

I got approved for 5 grand, I want to keep it well below that. I like the older body style more than the me one, would prefer a GTP if possible. Dependability is a big thing since I'll unfortunately have a loan out on it.

I really would love to keep a sunroof if possible, but it's not an absolute necessity. I do enjoy the bells and whistles leather, auto dim mirror etc. My Grand Prix was as a daily driver and towed a small trailer with my motorcycle on it.

you should have no problem finding a fully loaded 2000-2003 gtp with less than 130-150k. These engines (as you know) run forever especially if you take care of it. I wouldn't pay more than 4k for a 97-03 in any condition just fyi. Especially if its going to be a dd. Good luck and if you don't get the one you posted feel free to link us more ads.

The one thing I can for certain say about this forum is that you will get honest feedback.

I appreciate it, honest feedback is what I need. That first one posted meets everything I want except the sunroof and I'd a little higher on miles than I'd like, but again the 3800 is stupid solid. I'm stoked about the upgrade the HD trans as mine in my gt was starting to get a little stuttery at 180k. I'm thinking to shoot for about 2900 or 3 flat if possible.

3500 is too steep for a 98 with that mileage. i wouldn't go a penny over 2700. there too many out there for less than 3500. i paid 1300 for my 2000 gtp with only 118000 miles.

05+ GXP or go home. Or get a car that isn't fail wheel drive. I paid $1800 for my 97 GTP with 154k, that is in South Dakota, where people pay $4500 for 97-03 Grand Prix GTs with 180k+ miles.

If I went to inspect that first red GTP and didn't find any giant suprises, and it were in my area, I'd expect the owner to be insulted by offers under 3K. Its an unwrecked coupe with below average miles and well cared for. I would not go kick tires unless 3,200 in pocket. Just my honest opinion.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

Yeah but it's a 98, and I am willing to bet that the rockers and strut towers are either starting to rot or already are rotted. East coast is not friendly for anything metal on cars from what I understand, especially ones that are prone to rust.

My 02 made it six years, driven all winter long with cables as well. No rust at all. I'm in the Roanoke Valley though, warm air settles in the valley so we see maybe 5-6 good snows all winter long.

Snow has absolutely dick to do with cars rusting, its the salt that caused the rust.

Well I know that. I assumed snow will inevitably = salt.
