I can get a full set (both front buckets, back bottom and back pad) for $175 from a local yard.

Would this be a good choice?

I currently have the Tan/Camel plastic leather in my '00 GP. The junkyard seats are light tan/cream cloth from a '06 GP. I know technically, cloth is a downgrade from leather, but I'm thinking since it's always hot as balls here, the cloth may actually be nicer.

Would the cream look ok with the tan interior? Again, I'm thinking because of the heat, a light color would actually be better.

Another thing to consider is, my current seats are totally wrecked, and these junkyard seats are supposedly in really nice shape.

Also, I do have the room to store my old seats if I ever need to put my car back to original for resale.

-- So what do you guys think? Considering all the factors, would this swap be worth the time and money?

The only pictures I have of the potential new seats are in the CL ad linked in the first post. I haven't seen them in person, yet. According to Hernando, They are "very nice."

I only have pictures of the drivers seat in the PB library, but you get the general idea.

Totally true... you can see that the seat in his pic has a shot bottom cushion and it's the color of a rock. Hence..as hard as one.

18 way plus heat.. it's tough to say GP's are comfy if you've ever sat in one of these babies.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

No food or drink in the GP. Haha!

Just drove out to look at them. Fronts are really clean and still have good form. Backs are dirty, but i think they could be steam cleaned back to good.

Price dropped to $125 when i got there. (Must be Hernado liked my charm)

I think, unless something changes before tomorrow morning, I'll pull the trigger.

That's what I'm thinking. And I don't even have to pull them.

Now, my next question... Has anyone used the Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric paint on their cloth seats? I have this stuff:

that I used on my pillar pod, and it matched perfectly. I know you can "test in an inconspicuous area" (and I will) but I'd like to hear peoples real world experience. Wondering what others opinions on fabric paint is.

I haven't used it on seats myself personally but I witnessed my buddy using it on some old racing seats that he had.. My opinion.. It's crap made the cloth very stiff. He even tried to brush it it. Maybe check out what SEM has to offer for paint.. I'm a huge fan of their products... A good portion of my interior is done with their products...

Thanks for the info! I probably outta get them home, cleaned up and installed before I worry about the color. I may just like the lighter fabric. So, no paint for now.

And honestly, for the price, if I don't like them I wouldn't feel bad about turning the buckets into rolling shop seats or video chairs for the kiddo's and chucking the backs into the gaaaabaaage.

I used that stuff on seats...they came out ok.

If SEM offers something, it'll be a much better product.

Look for an 04+ set of leather seats. Well worth the upgrade.

I'd stay far away from that fabric paint. Silver or black covers OK, but tan takes way too many coats to cover evenly, and by that time you have plastic seats. Even SEMs, its just the high red content that tan paint has. And I love SEMs stuff, use it all the time on the faux metal plastic trim in cars.

Dye is for fabric. Only paint fabric in zero wear areas. Even SEM Color Coat is not recommended for seats or armrests. Before making a decision, I'd want to know what GM charges for new seat upholstery in the right color.

    According to GM parts direct:

    For the buckets-
Seat back cover in cashmere leather = $134
Seat back cover in cashmere cloth = $97
Seat bottom cover in cashmere leather = $128
Seat bottom cover in cashmere cloth = $67

So it would cost over $160 just to recover one of the front buckets in cashmere color cloth. Nearly $300 to recover the whole rear bench.

Weighing labor vs end result vs $, new covers seem like a valid option to consider at those prices. Now you just need somebody with a body shop discount!

Lady i worked with spilled coffee on here cloth floor mat and she used Bissell fabric cleaner for cars with great results. Comes in a black spray can and you just dab it dry. Going to try it on my pop stained car floor. And yes i love my 04 GP leather seats.
