So I went to the junkyard today just to find a digital dic for my 02 grand prix gt. I ended up finding an 04 grand prix with the guages still in tact. So I busted the plastic and took the needles. My question is, how do I go about taking off the clear plastic peice on my 02 grand prix?

Take off the trim piece that goes around the dash and radio/climate controls. (you have to unplug the fog light switch before it comes off) I found it easy to just tilt the steering wheel down and kinda wiggle the whole piece until it comes off. Then I believe there are 5 torque screws that you un screw and then the plastic cover comes off. Then you can change the needles.

Is there anything when it comes to taking off the old needles and putting the new needles on? Anything I will run into or just take old ones off and put new ones on

Really make sure where your gauges are at. Do you have hud? I found it best driving at like 15 mph around the block to put in the speed needle so its dead on. You'll also have to trim your speed needles so it doesn't hit the plastic piece.

What do I trim it with? And I don't have a hud. I have a scanner with live data though

that should be fine. You could try and get the rpms spot on too. I used a box cutter i believe. Just try and make sure fuel and your temp read right. Mine are still off lol

I used a door trim tool to get one needle off. The rest came off with a small screwdriver.

One other note' I removed my cluster and swapped the needles on the kitchen counter. When I put the cluster back in the car, all needles were WAY off. I had to re-do all of them. Not sure why this happened, but I have to remove said cluster to fix a bulb that is out, so we'll see if it happens again.

with the scanner all you really need to do is remember how much gas you have before hand, then stick the tach\temperature needles on where the scanner says. After that I go for a drive (well, the wife does the driving), and stick the needle on going anywhere from 45-60 MPH. The needles are a little heavier so they move slower, but that's not big deal. They are also weighted a bit so when you put the needle one you actually want to put it on higher than it currently is (1500 RPM vs. 900 RPM type thing) and it will drop down to the correct reading. On the speedo needle you need to trim the needle itself (orange tip) and the black piece that goes into the cluster. Without the trimming the needle itself is too long, and it also sticks out too far.
