I got my '04 GP reassembled and the HUD works wonderfully, but as the 5-button DIC isn't back from getting its miles matched (ETA Wednesday), when I was doing my adjustments, I noticed a few things:

One thing is the HUD isn't switching to Format 1; just between Formats 2 & 3. Now, I KNOW the compass and ambient air temp gauge work; I'd tested the DIC earlier. But right now those two features aren't booting up on screen; turn signals, radio channel (though that goes away after a few seconds) and high beams work perfectly! And gear position (also a DIC function) isn't on screen. And I don't have key in ignition or headlamps on chimes...

Which leads me to the question: does the current absence of the DIC limit what the HUD is projecting? Seems logical, but I wanted your opinions first...

Where did you send your 5 button DIC to get the miles matched? Also was it a new DIC or did you get it used?

I got it used (GM no longer sell new... unless they're hoarding NOS parts) from an '05 GT, and I sent it to AJR International in Highland Park, IL. I'll see it either late this afternoon or tomorrow...

And to answer your question, yes that is almost guaranteed why your HUD is limited right now. Once the 5 button DIC goes in everything should work erfect.

No problem; whoever told you DICs can't be reprogrammed just doesn't have the facts, because it was no problem for AJR! And they charged only $80 plus tax, which is a sight better than a visit to the garage! Even adding the $24 shipping both ways is still better than a visit to the garage...

Got my DIC back, plugged it in... RESULT! ...Though I think the photosensor may have developed a fault; it would not switch the lights off, though that was on the return trip from filling up and getting the left front tyre patched... (when I left the HUD's brightness auto-adjust worked instantly)

Nice work. Good to know we can save some green by going through AJR. Do they have to have your original DIC for verification purposes?

Yep! But they send it back when they're done. Still, expect to have the car sidelined for a week, week and a half, depending on how quickly the posts reach them (since I live intrastate and < 200 miles from them, it moved rather swiftly).
