Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Finally did my 99 GTP oil change. Went on a chow run and while idling in line I noticed coolant temp sitting around 220-230. Second time I have noticed this, and temp goes right back down once I am moving. I see the driver's side fan running and don't know when the passenger side is supposed to run. Hasn't happened yet at a time when I can pop the hood. My car does seem to eat thermostats. I can probably use the advanced scan tool at work to switch that RH fan on as a check. Can anybody tell me when that fan should kick on? Thanks.
I did put some work in on the newest project blog. There are a couple posts worth of pics of the 1959 Pontiac job.

The fans can't run independently of each other. The one that isn't coming on is bad, or a connection to it is bad. Which also means your low speed function is inoperative being it runs the fans in series.

I may have knocked the connector loose, must check that because I seem to remember needing a zip tie on one. But another Q...thanks, Blue. Why is the RH fan motor almost a hundred bucks while the LH is $27? Both are listed as single speed. It was my understanding for the last eight years that drivers side is constant and the passenger side varies to meet the demand. I don't know where I got that idea but you are the first one I ever heard say both fans do the same thing and run constantly but at different speeds. Don't guess it matters but I like to understand things that cause trouble.
It's nearly impossible to type what I mean on this phone, bear with any mistakes please. It only seems to force changes in the text that alter the meaning of sentences. I want back on a PC!
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
No idea why one would be more expensive.
But these cars's fans are wired with 3 relays for a series parallel circuit. It is possible to run one and not the other by turning on only relay 2 or 3, but I don't think it ever does that.

$230 buck of exhaust work to the GP today. Tomorrow it will be brake work and some suspension work. Also going to figure why my service ABS/Traction control keeps coming and going. It is throwing my cruise control off and on. Thinking I've got some corroded wires or a bad wheel bearing. No bearing noises though. Then the PCM will be off to Scotty for some work, then she goes up for sale.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
You're not running different sized tires are you? When I had a valve stem break on my stock wheels I threw some 15" Mustang steelies on the back til I could get it replaced. It effed with my abs/tcs and cruise. It wouldnt throw a light at first, but once it finally did throw a light the cruise worked as it should.

The fans run individually and are commanded on by the pcm, they only run when a certain temp is reached. Fan #1 comes on at a set temp and fan #2 comes on when air conditioning is on OR when the second higher commanded temp is reached to turn it on.

Well, today was fairly warm, over 90 and when I started it at lunch with A/C on both fans ran and didn't look slow to me. Before starting it this morning I confirmed by touch that the connector isn't loose. There's a possibility it got wet awhile back in the high water incident that killed the A/C bearing. But I am probably barking up the wrong tree. After the last elbow replacement I had trouble bleeding air out of the cooling system then after a week or two noticed that the radiator cap I recently replaced was seeping. Not tight. Have not had any more leakage and months have passed but maybe I should crack that bleeder again. Water pump is not loose, don't leak or make noise. Ah, the GTP life. Anybody had a temp sensor or wiring to it issue? What did it do, did the gauge freeze or not register at all? Just a thought. Car is loving life today and I love it back, the issue did not reappear.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
As far as fans go on these cars, nope they're series parallel fans. Very simple circuit and you can tell there are only 2 feeds to 3 relays. Meaning it's strictly a series parallel circuit. Relay 1 supplies power to the circuit. 2 and 3 being energized at the same time redirects fan 1 to ground and power to the other one.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fea084cf19.jpg

Nope. Same sized tires.

Drove in a heat wave for mn. 96 and a 75 degree dew point will get you this. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...47b533ecaf.jpg

Well, grand total for 2 rotors, pads ans sway bar end links was $188. So in 2 days I will have spent $418 in maintenance. Stinkin' racecar......

I am no good with schematics. Over the last eight years and three cars for over 100K though, I have rarely seen them both running. Doesn't mean any of my cars ever worked right but that's my observation and it jives with the cars I fixed wrecks on as a body tech. Only other factor is the computer I guess. I do have a can tune that runs one or both for half a minute upon shutdown. As usual, I will just have to wait until the source of the problem becomes more obvious somehow.

How much are you selling it for?
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Not sure yet. I will have to do some research on what it books for and what they are currently going for locally. I have a bit more work to do before I will consider it sale worthy. I have some really good luck with selling a few cars to a local small used car lot. i will probably try there first.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Getting new air filter today. Never tried Injen. Been thinking in my head "Injun," so at least it's keeping me entertained.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Rotors, pads and end links on. No more pulsing when I am on the breaks and no more clunk going over bumps. Forgot while it was in the air to check if I have a bad hub. Still have a small squeaking/squealing noise coming from the driver side. Now on to an oil change and send the PCM to Mr. Doggs.
