Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
All I did today was top off PS fluid in the GTP. Did a bunch of boating in it yesterday during flash flooding. Lightning hit 20-30 feet from my chair at 11:15 Friday night, took out my only tree, busted the water supply line to the house, fried buried internet / TV cable plus modem, router, network card. I can't post pics. Anything I enjoy is methodically destroyed by circumstances beyond my control, that's why I drive junk.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Removed the snow tires and put on the summer tires. Was going to replace a wheel bearing, but realized that I hadn't bought a 36mm socket (I keep borrowing one), so will have to do that later. Installed my proto-type fog light spacers. Swapped my clear corners back in, and the quick repair I did to them broke right away, so will have to re-do that. Had a few beers and sat in the sun..... not a bad day. :th_thumb-up:
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Fixed the LF wheel speed sensor wire on the 06. I did the RF one not long ago, this one felt left out I guess.
I've put almost 10x more miles on the 02 and it's almost 30k total higher in mileage, not one abs wire issue on that car. The reason for the wire failure on the 06 was a plastic casing that they have the wires inside cracked, causing all of the bending to happen in one place only. So I eliminated that and just used the original corragated wire wrapping only.
I felt a soft spot in the wire, tugged on it, and it broke. Copper was broken inside the insulation, stripped it back and it looks almost like it was cut.

i hope you striped it back to clean copper. thats all dry wire'd up in th epic.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Oh yeah, the pic is where the wire broke. I cut back all the way to the control arm where it meets the sub frame. Soldered and heat shrinked there. Also took the pins out of the connector and soldered new wire right to the pins.

well done sir. well done. :D
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Why, thank you. I never really was a butt connector person. Definitely never a twist and tape person lol. That just may give me nightmares.

I learned fast that soldering and heat shrink is really the only way to splice anything.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
That wire looks like my TV / data cable from the backyard after lightning. Toast is ready!
I effed up the GTP boating it Saturday. Now there's a noise. Might be that my compressor hub did not enjoy the swim.?!?! Reckon I'll pull belts and wiggle stuff. Perhaps I'll just find a stick lodged somewhere rubbing noisily. Yeah, right!! Anyhow insurance put me up in a swanky hotel suite and the free breakfast is worthy.
Onboard network card on my PC es muerto also and it sucks ass posting with phone

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Got the new brake hoses I ordered for the Impala brakes.
After reading how everyone says the old ones will work I thought I would order a new set just because
I ordered new ac delco professional hoses, 04 GP set, with brackets.
Now like a dumbass I didnt check if the Impalas are shaped different.
They are.
The new 04 GPs hit the bleeder. I felt around the wheel to check an old one and the metal lead after the banjo bolt hole felt shorter.
I ordered Impala hoses tonight.

Lucky dog. I have to replace the right front bearing again (4th time in 6 years), along with replacing the wiring for the left front; using a Motormite kit.
I didn't realize how loud the bearing was until I watched this video; crank the volume at the 5-10 second mark:

I actually cleaned the interior for the first time in months, and it still looks like a turd.
But I'm taking one of my co-workers to go get his driver's license, and he chose the Pontiac over the Chrysler.
I still don't know what his reasoning is.

Lol I'm pretty sure the 200C is much faster than the GP. Plus it's fancier, more comfortable, and has absolutely zero issues with anything.
But it is pretty confusing if you haven't driven it before. The whole rotary shift dial, backwards windshield wiper controls, electronically controlled EVERYTHING...
The GP is simple. Turn the key, press the brake, pull a shift lever and you're going. Lol
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
"Turn the key, press the brake, pull a shift lever and you're going."
Wow...Back in my day times were simpler.
Turn the key & slip it into drive.
No stepping on the brake required!
Ahhhhh...Technology!
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
here in NJ you need a car with a e brake in the console or a bench seat. you know, so the instructor can hit a brake if need be.

D.D.O.T.D I love it.... I have a 122 mile round trip commute to work. If you think that's bad, try driving in Mass. Even at 80m.p.h. if you follow more than 1 car length plus 2 feet, you just lost your spot. It's like Talladega out there every day, 3 wide racin'. As for your bearing, maybe that 'coon pushed it over the edge? And what brands keep failing you ? It's gonna be time to change mine someday, so I would like to know what NOT to buy. T.I.A.......E

I see that here too sometimes, but we don't have that much traffic. I don't tailgate, so always leave lots of room, but as you said, there are always idiots taking that space away. And I do not get the infactuation with driving the speed limit in the left lane. WTF

Never hit a 'coon in my life. Your thinking of Russ-o-saurus.

The first 4 were SKF, and the last 2 have been Delco. I went with Delco as they were on sale when I first got them, but up here they have a 5 year warranty, so that is proving to be a good thing. LOL I don't know why my car eats these things, but they all last barely 2 years.
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
Russ-o-saur, right.....confused a fellow dash cammer, sorry. If speed limit is 65 m.p.h. that should be right lane only// 70-75 middle 1 or 2 // 80 left lane, in a perfect world.... B.Columbia ? miles or kilometers per hour up there ?
Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0
All good. You get how a highway "should" work. We are kilometers here.
