gen v rotor pack has a different coating on it
I ran a 3.5 with headers, intake and tune for 5 months on a gen v with no problems. And more importantly little to no knock. The fact is that every car is different. I scanned with torque on every trip longer than about 5 miles and normally would get 1 to 2* no more and usually only about 2 to 3 instances per trip. Like everyone has said, just scan. Buy a 3.6, Scan, if good buy a 3.5
And if possible switch over to E85 and drop to a 3.3 with 0* knock like me :th_thumbsup-wink:
Little knock it's still knock though so a 3.6 would probably be the best bet. Pullies are cheap anyways if you need to change them out.
Can I get a HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ?
maybe an EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
how about an AAAAAAAAAAAA
think you get where im going......
If you really don't have a set of headers you really need a set. THEN go from there and see what happens....
he said in his for post he has ssac headers
Damn it nevermind FML. Surprised it knocks then on the 3.6 even?
I knocked on a stock pulley with headers.
I'm still on a 3.8 pulley, and I really think it's false knock, since it happens when the down shift does. I have all solid mounts on the way to help shut that up. I'm thinking I'll go with a 3.6 and if it behaves all the way to AZ, then she'll get rewarded with a 3.5, lol.
thats what tuning is for
Corn killed it. Working on the tuning thing right now.
I don't have a tuner, not sure if I'll ever get one yet, but I currently have a Reptile tune, and I hear he's pretty good. No corn, there might be a station in Springfield, but that still 60+ miles away.
I have a canned tune as well, and it's ok, but by no means is it the end all be all. There is simply no way for a canned tune to be as effective as either an in car tune by a local, or a dyno tune. That being said, if you were tuned for a 3.8 by reptile on your current tune, having him retune it by mail might help. But not as much as finding a local on here to help or eventually getting it dyno tuned. Either way good luck and if it is your daily, be on the safe side and go with the 3.6 to start.
When I bought the tune I told him that I would be doing a pulley drop very soon, so I believe it is setup for one, but I'll PM and make sure....
Just checked my PM from Reptile and he said it'll typically support a 3.5\3.6 on a Gen V, so I should be good. Of course I will keep an eye on KR. Hell. the car literally *****es at me when I have any. Fades out the music and everything.
cool, have fun and good luck.
I ran a 3.5 on my Gen V with just headers for awhile until I added a few other goodies, mentioned in my sig.
With your ER rockers, I bet you can get away with a 3.5 for sure. That's what I'd do.
Or just buy a 3.5 and a 3.6 pulley. Toss the 3.6 on and scan. No KR, move to the 3.5.
Figues, lol. 3.6 is on the way, but at least I got the hub now (or will) so I can easily swap it out later. I gotta drive over 2 hours to have my buddy in Joplin press the hub on for me though, damn it. lol.
Wow, times sure have changed. Never heard of a cam, IC, and/or rockers being needed to drop below a 3.6, lol. Not sure if serious.
Gen V, not Gen III. A 3.5 on a Gen V is like a 3.3 on Gen III. Still border lined cam\intercooler area.
What if the gen 3 is ported on the outlet? I am running a 3.0 pulley with fsic , 1.9 modded rockers, headers, overkill tune, 0 knock, 14 psi of boost, 93 octane. That's gonna change soon though :)
