So wondering how far i can push the gp. atm i have 176k original motor and transmission.
the engine will just keep on going with regular oil changes. the trans is a crap shoot as to how long it will last. if its had regular maint done it last a good while. not sure if mine was original or not but it sh it the bad at 216,000. engines up to 231,000 now. theres cars with way more. one guys got to be up to 350,000 by now. theres a thread, with pretty much the same title as yours already.
Ooops didn't see that thread lol. but i just wanted to ask because bill said most think cars are no good after 100k. so i wanted to see what i was looking at. i want to hit 300k, I've had a few cars witb around 350k and had a 4wd civic wagovan with 401k when i sold it. was still running strong but was from wv and rusty
But with the transmission its got about 60k i bought a trans go shift kit. in which i hope will help with the life and I've been trying to look into a transmission cooler. Does anybody happen to have any links to installing one. its sad i ask questions since I'm a ase certified mechanic and went to patric henry nascar tech. but extra input and tips are always nice. Honestly I'm kinda new to American cars. I've always been under the hood of rice burners but got tired of that life. cops love them some rice.
I've tryed using the search bar on here. but i always get other random crap and google is stupid on my phone too lol. i got a pos wanna be smart phone.
For a search, try clicking into the subforum you think it's related to (like trans, 3.8 N/A, 3.8 SC, etc.) and then click on the "search forum" option. It should pull up some more specific results.
You should be able to pull 300K no problem on the motor. My 95 Bonne is at 232K, 2000 GPGT is at 335K. Both are daily driven are run just fine. Heck, none of my driveable cars have less than 150K on them. My 84 Crown Vic had 412K (original motor) on it before I had to retire her to the garage for a body/frame reduild in 09.
All I do is keep up w/ regular oil changes and basic maintenance to get these results. Nothing fancy. Sure, I've been through some transmissions but that's to be expected. Who wants a car payment, lol... My cars don't die from mechanical issues, usually its the damn RUST that kills them.
That's what killed my old honda. had to sale it at 401k because it was so rusty. i could push down on the rear bumper and tons of rust would just fall
322000 out of my 2000 GP SE

Markpa what all have you had to do to it? i hope my car will get that far. i have been changing my oil every 2500 miles. changing the antifreeze every 20k, full tune ups when the book says and transmission fluid. soon I'm putting in my shift kit and transmission cooler to try to make it last. do you guys think also having a tuned pcm would help with the life of the trans?
just over 59k miles atm on my 01 gt. ive had 3 97-03 gts, one had 149k, one had 171k, this one i got in 2013 with 49k miles.. The suspension has gotten "old" passenger tie rod, and control arm bushings are all worn out in less than 3k miles from last oil change. Going to do a whole suspension redo, inner, outer tie rods, control arms, bushings, sway bar links front and rear, front brake pads, front struts, rear trailing arms, front wheel bearings all next saturday, only costed me roughly 450$~. Give my uncle a good 100$ to help me do it all, said he didnt want any money but cmon thats alot of work to do.
Mine actually "looked" ok aside from a few holes in the rear quarters near the trunk, it's what was underneath (or the lack thereof). I knew it was time to rebuild after I noticed one day that whenever I stopped the entire front end (from the fenders forward) would bow upwards at the windshield. The frame is so gone it was literally trying to break itself in half.
I'm up to 137k.
Most of the ones I see in junkyards are at 200k+, unless they're totaled.
174k on my 07.
My brother talked to me about possibly purchasing it off me for his wife when I am ready to move to another car.
